I miss my k10, which is a bit strange since it was hopeless above 400iso, rubbish auto focus, and cr@p dynamic range. But oh the colour, skin tone was second to NONE!
A real photographers camera, very similar to film. a few have commented that it was the camera that took them away from film, and for good reason.
Long live the K10 :)

pentax..... designed by photographers for potographers, not sum degree waving pencil pushing little upstart who reads stats and figures, then thinks they know everything.
pentax has always had an easy to use interface, putting useability first.unfortunately the af on pentax has always sucked ass.... untill now with an 'almost there' on the k5 and a 'we just nailed it' on the k5!!.
glass is second to none if you got the cash.
future proof raw files 'DNG'

often printed my k10 files to 20x24"
no problems at all, pixel peepers aren't photographers, they're tech heads

its a flavour thing some like canvas some like gloss prints on 1" foamcore others matt behind glass. simple as that. painting has nothing to do with it, i make them at work and we get allsort arty, collages, studio stuff, tram banner-bus scroll, the list goes on...

view finder....so what. dosent make my photos better, i do!
depth of field.....related to pixel size, not sensor size
wide angle lenses.....ummmmm wtf do you call a 10-20
low light performance....never failed a photo because of noise, mainly its focus, composition, and lighting......noise this-noise that, shut-up about the noise. its ruining your hobby/work.
i find that most people who have issues with noise take rubbish photos.
compare 5d mk2, d700, k5, d3, 7d, d60 prints at 8x12, viewing at 1mtr distance. make your own judgement.

you can tighten it up so it dosen't move, it'll handle that pressure. i lean on mine a fair bit and never had any issues

ummm no the cap wont kill you but it will hurt. as for the apature link not moving, i had it happen to my k10 a while back and it ended out being the actuator slipping over the top of the slide that contacts the actual arm of the lens. bit hard to tell without showing you but if nothings broken as such it will be a quick an easy fix for most pentax savie stores.
cheers.

oh my some answers are just well dumb, its dust dont worry it will have no effect on your images (which i might add is why you bought the camera), learn to live with it it will return. concentrate on taking photos an dont mind the little things so much.

class 4, 6, 10 etc referes to the min sustained write speed, and 15 or 20 MB/s referes to burst speeds.
although these figures seem to be ILS ratings and have never in my exp been all that accurate.
cheers

i still run a k10, af is crap-hard wrk to get results, iso performance is brill at 100, anything above 400 is pretty much un-usable, its handling is, like the later models, without equall (ie nik can sony etc suk)
dynamic range is by compare, lacking but shoot dng and its all good, all weather capability = perfect, every wedding i've done has come with torrents of water and she never fails - the flash is the first to go-water in the contacts.

ok so i've got a k10 10-17, 16-45, 50-135, and use also a d3 with 2.8 zooms etc when shooting for a mates studio on a reg basis.
i find the d3 bloody heavy but sure footed in every other way ie exposure, focus-its awesome, frame rate, build.
i find the k10 crap at af-it really is terrible, light and easy to handle-the nikon is a tad cumbersome when changing settings even some basic ones, nice exposures-perhaps not as wholesome as the d3, the k10's crap at iso above 400, but overall a nice tool - with the right glass and a little pressure applied.
now only having had a peek at a k5, id say look at the af systems-is the k5 as spot on as the nikon? is frame rate your thing? frame rate is not an issue really and 7fps is heaps for me.
the k5's only point that i'd have a closer look at would be the af system-if its as good as they say it is in the field then you wont have any worries changing from d3 to k5
