Well, failures aside, I spent the extra $95 and got the 3 year extended warranty from B&H. Seems like a good idea. I thought about the 18-135, but at the wide end, it seemed a little outa wack. Maybe I will rent one one day and put up the 50-135. For this ski season, I think I will keep with the original plan though.

Thanks - the return is in progress with KEH, and my credit card just ate the brand new charges from B&H. As a plus I will now have a lens hood too. Thanks for all the feedback:)

OK, so
I culled my lens herd, I scrimped and saved, and finally bought my dream: DA 50-135. I bought it used from KEH, which I normally have really good experiences with. This is the lens I have been drooling over for a bit. It came in the mail today, and the first time I put it on my K-5, it would move the USM to focus at all.
No it focuses OK, doesn't seem to back focus or front focus that I can tell. But it makes all sorts of squeaking noises and rubbing as it focuses in on something, and man is it SLOW. I had read that before, but didn't think it could be this slow.
All of which I can deal with. My question to any one out there is: does this indicate an imminent USM failure? I still have time to return this, and just pony up the extra $150 to buy a new one from B&H. Thoughts anyone? The clock is ticking for me to return this to KEH, I only have 14 days....

I have a SMC K 28 f3.5 with case, lens caps and original lens hood (square) with lens hood case. Its rare to find the whole shebang together like this.
Its in pretty good condition, and although a stop slower than others, it is highly regarded and sharp as a tack.
PM me if you are interested, and I can send you pictures. $150 for the lens, $160 with the hood.

I recently fell and landed with my full weight on my MZ-S with the grip attached. As it was in the snow, the camera and lens were both OK except for a scratch on the body door. The only real damage came on the grip: the shutter button popped off, and got lost in the snow.
Does anyone out there know a good option to send the grip to for a repair like this? Should I just send it back to Pentax? Or is there a good third party repair person that works on this vintage of camera?

arg! I just bought a K135, and although it is in pristine condition, and it didnt include a hood:(
Its a steal - and well worth the money. Hope this one goes to a good home
