85mm F1.4 EX DG HSM versus Pentax FA 77

I am a very amateur photographer but love it. My husband originally bought me the K10D and 18-55 lens so I would quit spending money at the portrait studios on my 3 kids. I didn't like how my photo's were turning out so my husband bought me FA 77 and I am super in love with it. I can even take pictures that make it look like a professional took the shots. The only thing is getting the full body and having to be farther away, thus the reason why I now need to FA 31 LTD. Anyhow, I love, love, love the 77 and the way it brings the subject forward to "pop" and how beautiful the blurred background it. I recently took photo's at a friends birthday party and posted the pics. People are emailing me asking if they can buy the file. I guess my point is, I love having a prime lens even though I don't really know what I am doing technically.

So my husband surprised me with the Pentax AF540 for Mothers Day the day after I told him how much I wanted the Metz 58. He bought it from B and H...the dilemma. Do I return my wonderful Mothers Day gift or keep it and see how I like it.

Which External Flash Should I get

Hello.

I need some advice on which external flash I should be looking at.

First, a little bit about what I shoot: I really purchased my k10d because I was tired of paying studios every month to shoot my 3 young children. I have since bought studio lighting that I am still learning with. However, I need an external flash I can take with me for birthday parties, family gathering and other imprompto photos that need light. My pop up flash seems to wash everything out and I just don't like the way the photo's look.

I have looked on the Pentax website and only see 2 that are available. However, I know there must be an off brand out there or maybe the Pentax external flashes really are the best, I have no idea.

Obviously I am learning as I go but want to pay for good equiptment. I have learned the hard way by buying a "cheaper" version and had to go back out and the buy the original one I wanted. I mostly shoot with my 77 f1.8. I really want the 31 ltd lens, but that's a whole other story :-)

I don't want to say price is not an issue, but I want a good flash that has directional lighting, adjustable power. If the best external flash is $100, great....but if the best flash out there is $500.00 fine too....I just want the best for the best price, like everyone else :-)

Please help, I am new to this but want to be better and someday hopefully want to take pictures of other children.

Thanks so much for the great responses. I think I know what I'll be asking the hubby for my birthday....hopefully he'll think $1K for the 31 ltd is an investment in my future shots!!!

Hello.

I bought my K10D to start taking portraits of my 3 young children. I recently got a FA 77 1.8 lens for Christmas with all the portrait lights. I think I need a wide angle portrait lens to capture full body shots with not alot of room to shoot.

Is there a great wide angle portrait lens out there. I want to be able to use it indoors and outside.

I absolutely love my FA 77 because of the blurred background and how it brings out the kids.

My goal someday is to be able to take professional portraits of children, but I think I am very long way off.

In addition to my 77, I have an 18-55 and a 50-200...Any advice is greatly appreciated.
