Hi
Not sure if this has been posted before. A video about the ups and downs of Pentax from the 80s to today. Youtu.be |

The Pentax version, based on the picture, looks almost identical to the Tokina, aside from minor cosmetics. We'll know for sure when the full specs are released.

What's your favourite lens for recording your fine dining experience? In the Instagram Age, I guess my question would be the equivalent of What do you use to 'gram your foodie shots?
For my K-1, I find the 31mm, creamy as the bokeh gets, just doesn't focus close enough. My D FA 50mm F2.8, on the other hand, doesn't give me the perspective I want, without having to leave my chair.
I've had great success (to the point of buying a second copy) with the Komine-made Vivitar 28mm F2 Close Focus (CF). Very highly-rated in the Pentax Lens Database.

I was going to skip the local camera swap meet and do some bird photography instead. Not sure if I’m glad I decided to go anyway—my wallet and bank account are now much diminished. :-(
Picked up: K 85mm F1.8, F 50mm F1.7, Rikenon XR 50mm F2.0 and a K 30mm F2.8. Also got a free K 55mm F2.0 thrown in.
Passed up on a whole lot of other K-mount lenses. Paid going rates based on PF Lens database.
I think I did well. The guilt will fade.

Update.
If one sets the top-plate shutter dial to "T", then the shutter speed e-dial, which I believe is by default the rear e-dial, has access to the full range of speeds, not just the +/- 2/3 stop range centered around the top-plate shutter dial value.
I also put all my XF lenses in "A" mode, and through some other setting (I forget which), I am able to use the front e-dial to set the aperture.
In effect, you bypass the mechanical aperture ring and shutter dial.
Lastly, I set the ISO dial to "A", and configure my camera's AUTO ISO with a minimum shutter speed value. The camera will automatically adjust the ISO whenever that minimum shutter speed cannot be satisfied. This means T and Av will be honoured, and ISO is dependent on those two settings. Exposure compensation is at the expense of shutter speed whenever the minimum shutter speed can still be maintained; otherwise, it is at the expense of ISO.
The net is you are in manual mode with Auto ISO.
——-
Another Update.
Currently, I am experimenting (with above customized settings) with having the mechanical shutter dial, my lenses, and the ISO dial all set to “A”. You are in aperture priority mode with auto ISO, and using the front e-dial. No need to futz with the aperture ring or dedicated mechanical dials.

I just got one. It’ll be my Birds In Flight camera. I’ll leave the macro and landscape stuff for my K-1. I wanted to use the X-T3’s front and rear dials to control the aperture and shutter respectively, à la K-1, but alas, that is simply not possible, so my muscle memory has to consider another workflow. BTW, I shot with Pentax SLRs back in the 80s, so using the aperture ring on my new Fujinon lens and the top-mounted shutter speed control on the X-T3 is not a big issue. But still.

Thomas Heaton and Sean Tucker for actual photography. They seem like nice guys too.
I also like Christopher Frost and Dustin Abbott for gear reviews (though not much in the way of K-mount).
I watch Atola Visuals as well, and yes, that angry guy (very mixed reaction to him though).

Hi BigMackCam
Are you nearsighted and middle-aged like me? How about floaters? These three factors put you at risk for a retinal tear or for (PVDs) Posterior Vitreous Detachments. Not to alarm you, but I'd Google retinal tears, retinal detachment, and posterior vitreous detachment. If the search results sound like what you're describing, I'd head to Emerg to get your eyes checked, pronto.
Two weeks ago, I noticed more floaters than normal in my right eye. The following day, while driving home at night, I mistakenly thought that my daughter was playing with her cellphone flashlight because of the flashes I saw out of the corner of my right eye. Of course, she wasn't. The effect was in my eye/brain.
My optometrist always tells me to go to Emerg should I ever see flashes, which is what I did.
In my neck-of-the-woods, it's typically a 4- to 5-hour wait before I even get to see the Emerg doc but, after being triaged, I jumped two waiting-room queues and was examined by a nurse, resident, and a doctor all within a span of about two hours. The eye specialist was paged but couldn't see me that evening. Hospitals treat symptoms like these very seriously.
So, it's better to be safe than sorry. Gotta have eyes to take pictures.
By the way, my diagnosis was a PVD, which of in itself is not serious. Follow up next week.
Hope it's nothing serious at your end either.

I was at the local camera show last weekend and saw two copies of that 28---one was going for $160 (negotiable I'm sure) and another in very good condition for $60. The guy selling it for $160 was aware of its cult status. Fortunately, he sold me an SMC K 55mm F2 for $50, probably unaware of the following the K 55 F2 and F1.8 have.
However, I couldn't justify picking up another one 28. You're going to like it. Solid metal. Sharp wide open. Great rendering. Minimal aberrations. Built to last.
I'm still on the lookout for the rarer 35mm F3.5 to complete the three K-omrades (K 28, 35, 55).
