Today I saw 7 dealers. Ruled out 4 as not right for me. One because the dealership staff showed no interest in me. That was the Jeep dealer.

But our schemes are local council money making ventures, without much of the risk associated with the idea of venture. They are also for certain locations, so cars that comply in other areas, even a street away, might incur the charges.

Tomorrow is a day of holiday for me. I will be going to some car dealerships to look at cars I am considering for a lease. Hopefully I like what I see. I will try to see at least MG, BYD and VW. Will also look for whether there are any other likely brands. Maybe Vauxhall. The Nissan models seem to have low range.

Trying to avoid the pollution charges for driving about the old university town and also to London. And my existing car is getting old and so likely to get expensive so fix repairs. Especially with an annual MOT system that could result in discovered faults that need to be fixed to make it legal to drive home from the test place.

My fence is a number of fence panels supported by posts in the ground. Last year I got some repairs done resulting in are wood. I am putting on a stain to give it a uniform finish. After that I have a few odds and ends jobs about the house. Then there should be not too much to do.

I like that lens too. 20/4.5. I bought mine on an eBay auction on my last night in Hoboken before flying out in the morning. I was the only bidder and got it for a good price. It was in good condition and included the hood and pouches for each of the lens and hood.

I like the mild barrel distortion.

Storage space is cheap these days, how much for 1T HD? They would not be using 1T HDs but you get the point.

More likely it was some clerk’s interpretation of security policy or some interpretation of tax issues associated with providing that ‘benefit’.

Demonopolise and let the old companies get making again. That way the bad events will be spread around more brands.

Another Boeing had bits fall off before it got off the ground. But past the point of possible aborting of take off so they kept going and went for a bit of a fly before returning. Pretty frightening for the passengers.

And a few days ago a Boeing getting shunted by a tractor at Heathrow crashed into a flying bus. Guess that can be blamed on a tractor driver who is one of those “OK guv” types you find here. Oh well, that one was good for the GDP by making some expenditure happen for the repairs.

That’s better than MrsTim’s experience with Tupperware when she was told that the lifetime guarantee did not apply because it was too old.

One of the deaths was in that building. A woman evacuated and was safe outside. Then she went back in to get her cat and something happened and she was dead. Probably the cat would have survived.

I think the fixing would be by breaking it in small pieces to go away on a truck and then putting a new building at the site.

It was probably a re-bar and concrete structure. New big buildings are steel frame construction with much more attention to the footings than before.

I have a friend whose wife was there collecting data for her DPhil at the old university. I had helped her with an introduction to someone who could help her find research subjects there. My friend told me his wife was traveling back to Taipei via Kaohsiung, a detour of about 250 miles extra travel because one of the bridges along the road had collapsed.

I know the gorge where rock slides happened. In 1986 I was on a bus that went past a line of 100 primary school children on a walking excursion along the road at the bottom of the gorge. A rock about the size of a person had fallen on one child in the middle of the line completely obliterating the head.

If it had been one day later it would have been a huge disaster. Thursday was the start of a four day weekend and the gorge is a huge tourist attraction.

The small death toll shows what can be done with modern engineering if one decides that it is worthwhile to make structures that can withstand the hazards in their area. The result is few deaths, modest injuries and little economic disruption.

The rocks around the gorge are marble, not much soil. The slides were mostly boulders.

I see one of the tourists in France crashed his bike and a whole bunch of others saw it and decided it looked like a good crash and joined in. Seems there were some serious injuries.

A bit like the Oxford Edition of Monopoly, announced yesterday on NextDoor. Every square and card was redone for the local politics.
