Simple. The Fuji is the fountain of youth, putting hair back on the chests (and heads) of older photographers, shrinking the dreaded middle-aged spread, and making them daydream about being HCB stopping for a cigarette and espresso at a Parisian cafe. The OM-D is likely to trigger similar synapses.
Mythology is a powerful thing.

According to the spec sheet, it is "silver and black". However, retailers are stating that it's white. Perhaps the silver and black version is not coming out in the US? In any case, I will check and get an official answer about this.

I think it's a huge complement...
Volvo have excellent designers, the ergonomics of their interiors are second to none for instance. I like the look of them too, so I guess that's why I not only own a Volvo, but love the look of the K-01
Japanese & Korean cars on the other hand.....

I didn't see the GIF... :hmm:
Then why are the Canon 5D MKII and 7D so popular for video? I think the question would be better as "Why would most people need an EVF for video when they have an LCD screen and HDMI out?"
- Ergonomics
- Weather resistance
- Shake Reduction
- Metal casing and frame
Back in the day the pentaprism viewfinder was a deciding factor when I bought the *ist DS over the Canon Digital Rebel...
Now, the K-7 and K-5 were the cameras that kept me using Pentax.

You state the obvious :)
This is why I hope the K-01 would have an EVF, because it could complement a K-5: OVF for stills, EVF for video, one pool of lenses.

Last pic from our vacation in Kauai - still processing at the condo on the macbook air, so apologies for any color calibration issues.....
Shot on 645D / 35mm (and yes, the colors on the Rainbow Eucalyptus is for real - they are amazing) |

You really can't win at all, someone always manages to have a whinge.
Pentax say nothing, and no rumours afoot = Ricoh are killing off K-mount (end of the world). Or rumour of a new K-mount APS-C mirror less entry level camera = Pentax didn't make the exact camera I dreamt of and it's going to flop (end of the world).
Le sigh.

Flange focal distance for K-mount (45.46mm) remains to be a problem with the mirrorless system unless they are going to ditch the K-mount entirely. Something I do hate to see it happens. And personally, I find an adapter for the lenses rather awkward.:(

I've been lurking on here for a while, and just had to weigh in on the 30p vs 24p in the Pentax K-7. What I'm seeing is that a lot of people in Europe are wanting to convert their 30p video to 25p for watching on their TV.
From here on this post will be a bit (pardon the pun) technical. Here in the states we use NTSC, which means 30fps (actually 30/100.1%). As you all know, most movies are shot at 24fps. So how do they put the movies on DVD for watching on your TV? Simple. They slow down the frame rate by 0.1% to get approximately 23.976fps. Then they apply 3:2 pulldown. What this does is take each frame and split into two fields. Even numbered frames are displayed for 3 fields, odd numbered frames are displayed for two fields. Presto. You have 29.97 fps. Pulldowns also exist for converting 25p video to 30i.
Those of you in Europe have PAL (or SECAM) which is 25fps. To convert 24fps (film) for viewing at 25fps, simply speed up the video and audio by 4%. Instant 25fps. Now if you're trying to watch an NTSC tape, which is 30fps, guess what. Most European VCRs and TVs don't even try to convert it to 25fps. They are multi-system receivers. Instead they display it at 30fps with a PAL frequency color burst signal. This hybrid signal is called PAL60, because it's NTSC framerate (60 fields per second, or 30fps) but with PAL color.
To put it simply, if you live in a PAL country, chances are you do not need to do anything to enjoy your 30fps video on your TV set. Your playback device should output a PAL60 type signal which your TV set should already understand. No conversion necessary.
For more info about video you should really check out videohelp.com. I've been a member over there since either 2003 or 2004 (I forget which year sorry!) and have found it valuable for learning about the more technical aspects of capturing and editing video. Although the discussions do get quite technical over there at times.
Thanks for putting up with my rambling!

I got myself another FA*, more of an experiment to see what it is like than serious need but it does seem to be one outstanding lens indeed. I love, and mean LOVE, the colours this lens is producing! And this zoom is recently seeing much more use than my primes combined :o .... go figure... I might even keep it. Just need to work out how to pay for it ;)
The following shots were all shot wide open. I was expecting to see some PF as I was shooting water sprayed bronze fountains on cloudy day. But nearly no trace of it!
very happy camper :D
here are the shots (X posted from post your photos):

The Canon 7D and 5D Mark II are advanced amateur cameras too. As in: the 5D is deliberately crippled as to not to eat into the 1D series' sales. That's why Pentax could easily take the FF market by storm, as there's no professional camera line to protect. A Pentax FF model will always be better than the entry-level FF from Canon/Nikon. Because it will never eat into the sales of 645D's as they don't share the same lens mount.

My last LBA. For some time I've looked for best 80-200 zoom which will replace in my bag two portrait lenses between 100-200. So my search was driven by two goals: best IQ and not heavier than 1kg. I thought about varoius Vivitars 70-210, old and new Pentax zooms, Tamron 19AH 70-210 and even Angenieux 70-210. Leica 80-200/4 has the best score in photodo (better than canon 80-200/4).
My impression is after one week. It is quite heavy - little over 1kg, but as other leicas is very user friendly - has build in hood, all parts moves extremally gently and are very precise. At f4 IQ is amazing. I did't test it enough to have final opinion about bokeh. I need more time and better weather conditions.
here there are examples - all at f4 |
