I wondered, why have pantax removed the aperture ring coupling from the digital cameras, what is the point? nikon has it (end models). what could be better in a crippled mount?
This is possibly one of the things I dislike most in my K-5, I really hope pentax will come to there senses add FULL support for K mount lenses.

I know this comparison but it doesn't answer the reliability question and add to the equation that they are at the same price (used DA*)...

A store in my area has a new tamron and a used DA* they are both on sale for ~470$ (very uncommon in Israel)
I want to buy one of them and the last time I took a look at the DA*' it malfunctioned (when it was on my K-5 showed "low battery" and then power off) and now they are having it repaired (they side it was SDM).
and so I don't know witch to get...
What would you do?

So after a long and careful thinking I told my family I want this flash as a birthday gift, So we went to the only store in my country (Israel):hmm: that has new Pentax gear in stock (the Metz importer and its only the 50 & 58 flashes :(). the damage was the equivalent to 500$, witch is the same price I'd pay if I had it shipped from B&H :).
And :eek: I'm in love!
I have never believed I would enjoy using a flash on my K-5.

So after thinking abut it and reading your posts I think I'm going to go for the flash, I hate using the build in flash and I'm interested in flash photography/ lighting (that is the main reason).
any way thanks for all of your comments you helped me a lot.
for the tripod I have an "ok" one and I don't use it much, but that is because up until now my main field was street photography.

So as a gift for my birthday my family asked me what do I want and I'm considering two options a Metz 50 af-1 or a DA 35mm f/2.4
my current arsenal is:
K-5, DA 18-55, SMC 28mm f/3.5, SMC 50mm f/1.4 and a K 200mm f/4
So what wold you have?

perhaps a waterproof replaceable lens system or a 4/3 cameraphone. and if you want a 100% since-fiction script a flexible element lens...
BTW if any of things happen I am probably just dreaming
