Old 20mm or 21mm primes @eBay

Hello!

It was very interesting to read these comments on the old wide angle primes.

Now I'd be curios about if there is anyone who could compare these oldies with their modern counterparts, more precisely - wich has the better IQ: some old 17, 18, 20mm legend or - for the example - the Pentax 12-24mm IF (at the same focal, of course)?

I've read several times that when using these oldies on a dSLR there is something wrong with the angle of the rays: they are very far from being ortogonal to the sensor and consequently these old primes can't reach their legendary performance any more (at least on a dSLR).

I've also read that there are budget zooms even producing sharper images than the Flek. or the MIR (at 20mm).

Lookin' forward to the comments...

Hello,

Here you are some flowers taken with Pentacon 29mm f 2.8 MC Auto on my K10D, with only marginal corrections applied during the RAW conversion. I'd be curious about your comments. Personally never taken any shots with M42 lenses before and now being more and more sure to get rid of my AF equippment ;) This little pentacon was about 20$. The reason for the "extremely high" price tag was probably that the lens was sold in "Brand New" condition... :p

Once again about Super Multi Coated Takumar 50mm f 1.4

Hello!

Being intended to buy a fast M42 standard lens with highly rated IQ I'd like to ask 4 question about the Super Multi Coated Takumar 50mm f 1.4:

1. Probably it is rather hard to find any people around being not aware of the fact that this lens shows some radioactivity as a result of the thorium content of the coating. It is also known that "this radiation is not dangerous for human healthy". I'd like to know if :confused:there is anyone who could support this reassurance statement with numbers or medical expertise?

2. :confused:Where can I see about which other old lenses are radioactive? I've tried it but haven't managed to find the right pages so far, perhaps it is a mistake of my google search engine... :p

3. The yellowing of this lens is also a well known and frequently occurrence which is a result of the thorium radiation. Now supposing that in eBay I can see one which has no yellowing. :confused:Does it mean that it will never have or the yellowing is only a matter of time?

4. :confused:Are there any M42 fast high IQ lenses at about 50-60 mm which can reach the performance of this Takumar? Bookeh and sharpness - in this order - are the most important features for me.

Many thanks!

SMC Macro Takumar 50mm F4

Hi everyone here!

I would be curious to know what are your opinions about this lens.

In comparison with the longer and more popular Kiron/Vivitar 105mm, Voigtlander 125mm as well as the Tamron 90mm this lens is quite cheap though there are some people saying that any of the former mentioned competitors would be a better choice. However Takumar lenses about 50mm are usually highly recognized considering for example the results that Carpents found about one year ago (it was the SMC Takumar 50mm F1.4).

So if there is anyone having experiance about this SMC Macro Takumar 50mm F4 then I would be greatful if I could get aquainted with his/her opinion by hoping that I am not the only one who is interested in this - may be not so popular - lens.

Regards and thanks in advance!

Hello everyone here!

In connection with the lens under discussion I would like to ask the following:

Are there any significant differences between the f2 , f1.7 and f1.4 versions of SMC A 50mm?
I would use it on my K10D.

Thanks in advance!

Vivitar Vivitar Series 1 70-210 (62mm) or Pentax 50-200?

Hello everyone, I am a new member here.

Yes, I am aware of this page having been devoted for the question "Vivitar Series I or Pentax DA 50-200" but I would take the liberty of asking here the following:

some Vivitar Series 1 (Kiron, Tokina or Komine) or Pentax A 70-210 F4?

As far as I know, all of these lenses are very highly rated on Pentax digital cameras, but I should like to know which one of them is more worth buying? I suppose the Pentax but I am looking forward to becoming aquainted with other opinions!

Thanks!

and I am sorry if my english was bad... (it may be a special dialect spoken only in Eastern-Europe...)
