Cheers Sorver, yes i switched it into MF as per the instruction sheet, i will have another play tomorrow and see what i can work out, when i couldn't get it to work i changed the camera setting from single shot to remote continuous but from reading above in Jabiru's post he said something along the lines of no settings to change.

One thing i did notice i still had everything on and i unplugged the cable from the camera and it took a shot, does the same if you plug it back in, not sure if this behaviour is correct.

Happy New Year to you as well Sorver.

It looked like we may of had a storm rolling in the other day so i hurriedly set the trigger up on my K-5ii using the supplied instructions.
I would assume the cable supplied would also suit the K-5ii as well as the K-3, i was pulsing a very bright led torch to try and trigger it, maybe this is the problem but in the supplied sheet it say's it won't operate near fluoro or energy saving lights, not sure if LED's fall into this category as well.

Any suggestions on possible settings i've missed or how to trigger it manually so i can at least test it works ok ? I made sure the camera was set not to go into hibernation as previously discussed.

cheers
Darren

After following this thread for so long i recently acquired an SMC 15mm and can finally contribute, I ventured out for my second ever night shoot, had a friend give me a tour around lightroom, he went over the harbour shot and I did the other. Still lots to learn.
Oh and I know this isn't the thread for CC but happy for any tips from anyone regarding the pics.

cheers

Sad news, RIP Bruce, condolences to his family.

When I first joined I quickly realised through the pics Bruce shared we were from the same home town, I enjoyed seeing how he went about capturing local landmarks.

Hey Schraubstock, no problem mate, the more pics the merrier, thanks for sharing :)

The one thing I tend to find they aren't very co-operative when it comes to both of them having their eyes open at the same time but I will work on it, I guess its all about the timing and being in the right place at the right time, would of been gold to have the camera when the crow was hassling them.
I checked the nest this morning and yep well it does kind of resemble the makings of a nest but from what I have read Tawny nests aren't known among the bird world as being of very sound looking construction or the prettiest nests, they haven't done me any favours on the position either, the neighbour has give me the all clear for access to his yard whenever I want to take pics and I will scope out the driveway at the back for access/nest view.

I am sorry for the quality of pics yesterday, I always seemed to have a small twig etc in the viewfinder and the framing could of been better on the eyes open pic but I was using the tripod and didn't get time to adjust.

cheers

Update time, well some exciting times of late, last Sunday morning I was hanging some washing out and a crow landed in the paperbark and then proceeded to hop from branch to branch making his way up to the tawny's, the crow ended up on their branch, the tawny's fluffed up and the male got into defence mode, the crow wasn't backing down so I wandered down and started to try and hunt the crow without scaring the tawny's off, well the psst psst noises weren't working and the crow kept advancing so I picked up a stick and that did the trick.

Today I tried two different spots because they were roosting in the smaller paperbark only 10-12 ft from the ground, the first spot I tried was on the deck with a 6 ft ladder but I couldn't get a clear shot on them, second spot I scoped out when I was cleaning some dead branches away under their usual roosting paperbark but again still not a clear shot.
The other day I thought I could see some nest signs but I couldn't confirm it BUT the neighbour came in just after dark telling me they had been building the nest the last few days and from his back deck he has a clearer view so I went in too check it out, couldn't see too much other than the area in the tree to check out tomorrow but what did surprise me is one of them came flying down and landed 15ft away eye height with us and sat there for probably 5-10 minutes before flying off so its good to see they are comfortable around humans.

The amazing thing i've found just looking through all my pics of them is the amazing many faces they produce, everything from evil through to cute.

cheers
Darren
