Wow these are all great replies, thanks so much! Two dials does seem like it would be nice, it is kind of annoying having to dig down into the menu system sometimes when trying to dial in a shot. I also like the top LCD of my K100. Probably my only gripe with the K100 is the AF is kind of slow and gets confuzzled sometimes.
Its not that I would prefer a prime, its just I heard a prime lens can make up for the k7's low light problems. That is a wonderful 35mm shot.

I started my amateur photography about 5 years ago with a K100d and the kit lens. Its been great to me over the years and has taken some excellent photographs, and still works well! Problem is my wife has gotten into photography recently and has taken a liking to my camera (not a bad thing!). I like to keep a camera with me when I'm out in case I see a stunning sunset, I have a passion for sunsets. So I need help finding another Pentax.
I'm looking at the K7 or the KR, and both seem like formidable cameras. I'm wondering in your experience which one is better for sunsets/outdoor photography. I've heard from some the K7 lacks in high ISO ranges but others say it can be made up for with good glass. Should I forego the kit lens altogether and get a prime? While I like the WR of the K7 and seems like it would be a nice feature to have, I've never had any trouble with my non-wr K100. My main concern is which one would take the better photos.

First of all, I want to humble myself in front of all of you experienced, knowledgable people. I got into the DSLR game because they take great "genuine" pictures, but I am by no means a professional photographer, which is why I'm coming to you with this question.
I'm going to Japan for two weeks in August, and since this doesn't happen all the time I want to make sure I take perfect pictures. My current camera is a K100D with the kit lens, I've noticed it blurring around the edges of the pictures for a while. The center is perfectly in focus but the farther toward the edge you go you can tell its goes out of focus. Its not terrible, and with a 4x6 picture you'd never know, but I'm sure I'm going to take pictures that I want to blow up bigger than that.
Is this something wrong with the lens?
Can I fix it or have it repaired?
Should I just buy a new lens?
Thank you all!

Hello all. I got into photography last fall and picked up a K100D for Christmas (thanks Santa). Check out my gallery and comment. I like to think I'm pretty good, however I haven't gotten into photo editing at all, a part of me just likes to keep it natural. My Gallery |

I've been surfing around here for a few months now, waiting for my K10D to come from Santa this year... and this morning.. SUPRISE! I got a K100D, not what I was expecting, it looks like santa's helper mixed them up, but that's OK. I was a little worried the K10 would be a bit too advanced for me, considering this is my first DSLR. I've taken a bunch of photos this morning already, dog, wife, parents, and about to head out to the lake to get some more. Now I just need to get the hang of it! It is a lot better than the old P&S I used to have.

Just yesterday we had a cold front come through so its a good 60 degrees now (haha), last time it snowed in Houston was over 2 years ago. So we can see the pics after the contest is over?

I love this photograph. This is a very artistic picture, for that reason it doesn't have to bring out all the details. In a way it exemplifies the simplicity of nature, invoking a feeling of peace inside of us. (at least it does for me)

I feel the same way, I'm getting a K10D from Santa this year (how much the wait kills me) and as you can see I'm avidly surfing this forum, as well as others constantly looking for new info about it!

^ what he said. I couldn't exactly "afford" the K10D so I was determined to save up for it. ( I think Santa is getting it for me ). The last 2 oly camera's I have had both were water resistant and it pays off! Even if you've never had a camera die from it, its nice peace of mind to know it can handle it, I've taken some great shots from the back of a moving boat or in rain that I wasn't afraid to take.
I'm the same way about losing money, I figure its more expensive to buy cheap then upgrade later than it is to just take the upgrade in the first place.

Awesome replies guys thanks a lot! I think I'll go with the kit lens for now like you said to find which focal lengths I like, I may want to go wider or not, but for a hundred bucks I'd might as well find out. I'll also get the Tamron macro lens, where is a good place to find a good selection of these lenses? I'd like find a good place and stick with them for all my photo needs.

BTW, would there be any weathersealed lenses out there in this category? Wouldn't make much sense to have a seal camera but vunerable lens.

Hello, I am just getting into DSLR photography, I've owned 3 digital cameras over the past few years and decided SLR is the way to go for me. I think I am going to purchase the K10D when it is released. I'd like some help decided which lens to get, I enjoy shooting sunset and landscape photography, I'm also interested in Macro. Should I get the kit lens 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 with the camera, which I think would work fine for the outdoor photos, only I'm a little concerned it only costs $100 more to get the lens, doesn't strike me as a great lens. What macro lens should I get for shooting things like flowers? I really want to get the lens right the first time even if it means spending a little more initially.

I think i'm going to get one, may at least wait for a review or two to come out on it, but I don't see how I could go wrong as this will be my first SLR camera and a huge step up from my P & S olympus
