Sorry for not posting back in a while, sudo definitely did the trick. Following the tutorial on the pktriggercord timelapse example, I produced this: Youtu.be |

Very fun, will definitely try to compact this setup and make it more portable in the future.

Thanks!

@all_thumbs: thank you very much for all of your help. I was just a bit weary because I had purchased a k mount lens that I was fairly certain would fit, only to find that I have wasted my money. I will be sent pictures tomorrow and go to purchase it Monday if everything looks good. Just in time for my trip, I'm so excited!

I realize this thread is a bit old, but I am currently looking at this lens and am very interested. Aside from the M42 mount, will the lens require any modification to use with my K-X?
Thanks in advance!

Damn, I'm fairly certain I see the rectangular notch you describe.
Is there no way of using it on my K-X, even with modification?

I looked up the serial number and everything in the Bestiary and it said it was. The text after MADE IN JAPAN says K/AR.
When I move the lever by hand the aperture blades do not move. I will try to take pictures soon.
@K57XR, you were able to mount it without modifying the lens at all? Mine feels like there is an extra few millimeters.

First, please do not refer me to the sticky. I have read: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/93285-pentax-k-x-w...-old-lens.html https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-beginners-corner-q/59272-shooting-...x-dslrs-f.html
and the embedded link within.
I am a new K-X user and recently received my first manual focus lens. It is a Vivitar 28mm f2.8 (according to the Bestiary it is made by Komine and a K mount (13)). While I just may not be used to mounting these lenses, it does not feel like a stable mount. I have read several other blogs and have tried to unscrew the black base with the 3 screws and the extruding metal pin with 2 screws beneath it, neither of which has resulted in a secure fit, though each has felt more promising.
When I am able to fit it relatively snuggly, I notice that when I change the aperture the viewfinder gets darker, which I have read is not supposed to happen with K mount lenses until using the green button.
Thank you so much for your help in advance and I apologize if I have overlooked something obvious.

Thank you to everyone for all the suggestions! I recently won a M 50mm f1.7 and am very excited. I had looked at the Zenitar and want one really badly, though I have to buy a rail pass for travelling and that cuts the fisheye out of the picture.
Since I leave in 9 days, I do not think I'll be taking more than the kit lens and the 50 I mentioned above (unless I find something locally). I agree with A-z in that if given the chance I'd want to buy a wide angle than a long zoom, but I haven't seen any cheaper than the Zenitar.
Quick questions: will the M50 work without any modifications on my K-X?
@wtf_cowboy or anyone else: where should I buy my m42 adapter? do I need a different one for each different m42 lens?

In a little less than two weeks I will be going to Europe for the first time! My K-X just arrived with its 18-55 kit lens and a vivitar f2.8 28mm is on its way. I was hoping to stock up on a couple more (2 max) prime lenses for cheap so that I could have a lot of fun with my camera abroad. I figure I will need them most for taking pictures of landscape/architecture and also general pictures in low light. Thus, I was looking at some wide angle lenses and a fast lens like a 50mm 1.7ish lens, but was afraid I wasn't going to get enough zoom.
I'd say overall I'm not looking for the greatest lenses. I just want the ability to take some decent looking shots and mostly have fun while not completely throwing my money away. Thanks in advance for your help!
P.S. i'll be going around Belgium and probably a lot of western Europe. Any suggestions on where I should try to travel to for weekend trips?

Hi PentaxForums. My name is Mark and I am a college student who fell in love with film photography back in high school but never had the time in my schedule to continue pursuing it. Now that I am in college I hope to change that and am looking at a Pentax K-X as my first DSLR. I am very attracted to its size, low-light performance, HD video capabilities and built-in HDR. I hope I have made the right choice! If anyone shoots motorsports or cityscapes, please refer me to your work!
