Does the bag stay in place on your back when you lean over or stoop down?

I'm going to be vacationing in the mountains this summer. I will, of course, have my KP with me. I have the DAL 18-55 lens from my previous camera and the 55-300 PLM. What other basics would you recommend me taking with me. We will be hiking a lot. I hope to take photos of waterfalls, mountain landscape and wildlife. I'm also looking for a bag. I currently have a small shoulder bag that is a pain to hike with.

I received my new KP. Is there a certain setting I need to put it on to use the Pentax 55-300 plm?

Yes, they said that they were told the silver KP is being discontinued and they won't be getting more.

I received a call from Adorama customer service yesterday in regards to the silver KP that I had ordered on backorder. They said that they have been told it has been discontinued and they won't be getting anymore. So, they are sending me the black instead, which is what I really wanted anyway. I only ordered the silver because it was the only one at the time that was still available with the free flash.

It's actually free with the purchase of the camera. However, there are other packages available that have things like bags, tripod, etc. I have many of the things that are in those packages though. I could use another bag though. I thought if the I would use the flash that it would be a good deal but if not I would go for the package with the bag, etc. It's the same price either way. I'm leaning towards the flash.

I've never used a flash other than the camera's regular flash. Most of my photos are taken outside, ex. birds, butterflies, flowers, landscapes I do take some pictures indoors like at Christmas, birthday parties, etc. Would a speedlight be helpful for any of those? The camera body I'm thinking about buying comes in different packages. One of those is with a free speedlight.

Do you think the kp price will go lower than $697 anytime soon?

I'm probably going to go for the KP and the 55-300 plm lens. I'll buy the camera first and hopefully the lens will go down in price and/or I'll save up some more lens $ by then.

Thank you everyone. I have cleaned the contacts and the camera and lens. It's still not as sharp as it was. I think it's probably the lens. I also think it is probably time to update my camera though. Maybe more for want than need. ;) I'm probably going to go for the KP and the 55-300 plm lens.

70-300 Tamron lens The quality of the photos isn't the same as when I first started using the camera and lens. It seems to have problems focusing now.

I am pIanning on replacing my k-r and tamron lens. I was thinking about the KP. However, the question was asked of me if I still think Pentax and DSLR is the way to go for me because I don't have much equipment and I'll be replacing what I use the most. Honestly, I don't know what would be best for my photographic needs. I take a lot of pictures outside of flowers, landscapes and animals. I have kids in sports that I would like to be able to take quality pictures. So, I need a camera that takes quality photos of high school soccer, football and baseball. I enjoy taking pictures of mountain landscapes, birds (telephoto) and macro shots of flowers, bees, etc. I've been told that Pentax might not be the best camera for my needs. What do you think? I would like to spend around $1,000 or less.

Thank you. It doesn't always fail to lock focus. However, even when it does the pictures just don't seem very sharp anymore. I shoot using the viewfinder. I will look into your other suggestions and also
do a better cleaning of it.

I have a k-r. When I first got it, it seemed to take pretty sharp pictures. However, the quality is definitely declining. I'm using the same lenses, the kit lens and a tamron af 70-300m. Many times when I use it, it doesn't seem to be able to focus. It just keeps zooming in and out without focusing. Do you think it's the camera or the lens? If I need to buy a new camera, which one would you recommend? I'm not a professional photographer, obviously. I take a lot of pictures outside of flowers, landscapes and animals. I also take a lot of sports, mainly soccer, pictures.

I have owned my k-r for more than a year. Do I need to send it to a Pentax authorized service center or can I take it to any camera service center? I believe the camera only had a 1 year warranty. I don't think it would be covered under warranty any way.
On our way out of state, our vehicle blew a spark plug and heli coil. So, we had to sit at a repair center for 5 hours to have it fixed. Well, during this time, they decided to check the lights on the inside of the vehicles trunk. :( They didn't tell us they were going to do that. They opened the back and my camera, with lens attached, fell out onto the concrete. My dh had put it back there thinking that the service techs wouldn't mess with it back there. Well, that didn't work out so well. The camera seems to work okay. The 70-300mm lens I had on it didn't turn very well at first and the lens hood is cracked in several places. When you look through the viewfinder of the camera you can see what looks like a black chunk in the middle, but it doesn't show up in the pictures.

Nice picture normhead.
I took pictures of the supermoon. I do have to agree though that I like the pictures with something else with the moon, like normhead's photo. I wanted to get a picture of it at the horizon, but with the clouds and the trees that surround us, it wasn't possible. I enjoy looking at everyone else's pictures. One good thing about the supermoon is that it got all of us inspired and out taking pictures :)

I went out to practice taking moon pictures last night. I'm having trouble getting the moon and the foreground in the picture. I either get the moon sharp and the foreground so dark I can't see it or I get the foreground and the moon is just a bright hazy blur. I've read some things today that may help. The experimenting continues. :)

A lot of the pictures that I take are of my kids or birds and wildlife in my yard. The rest are took at the zoo and the occassional hiking trail. Is a tripod going to make much of a difference in the sharpness of my pictures? I think that I need to work on the sharpness, amongst other things, of my pictures.

So, I should get a linear instead of a circular polarizing filter? I only have 2 lenses. I have the kit lens that came with my k-r and a tamron 70-300. I've never used a filter before. Should I get one for each lens? Or should I get one and then a step up or down ring?
Thank you. You guys are a great help!

I take alot of my pictures outdoors. I've noticed that the sky in my pictures is not the color I'm actually seeing. So, I'm hoping to get closer to that with the polarizing filter. I also have tried to take pictures of the water and think that the polarizing filter would help with that. I don't really feel as though I NEED the uv filter. I like the way the "after" pictures look that I've seen taken with nd filters. So, I thought a kit with both would be nice. Maybe I should just get a polarizing filter for now.

I have a pentax k-r. I'm thinking about getting a filter kit that includes a uv fiter, nd filter, and polarizer filter. Is this the way to go? Would you recommend tiffen or hoya? I've seen good reviews for the tiffen but haven't seen reviews for the hoya. I have a 52mm lens and a 62mm lens. Should I get the size for my bigger lens?
Thank you!
