I had something similar and took the camera to the Pentax service facility which is fortunately relatively near and had the sensor cleaned. The stain appeared a short while after I started using the camera, so it wasn't the same as that reported as afflicting the earlier production models. Since then all has been fine but 'just in case' I bought the Pentax sensor cleaning kit.

Anyone experienced this?
I take a picture and the card access lamp flashes as if it's doing something, press the Playback button and there is only a black screen displayed.
Also Live View does not function although the screen information is there, the same applies to Video mode.
In Playback mode all the images that were there previously are displayed and the screen displays all the relevant information prior to taking the photograph.
Any help or advice would be appreciated, though it looks like I'll be making the journey to the Pentax repair facility again, already been there twice, I'm beginning to think I should have bought a nikcanon.

I recently bought a K-5, I had the viewfinder cleaned by the Pentax repair meister here in Switzerland, it was dust on the focusing screen which was just annoying me. This was just days after having had the camera, and all I'd done was attach the lens bought with it.
Now weeks later there's dust on the sensor, so I'll be having it cleaned again, I'm reluctant to do it myself in case it affects the warranty.
Incidentally, my other cameras, in all the years I've had them, have never had a problem, both Olympus. . .

Thanks for the information, according the reply to a query I made using the Pentax web-site contact form in Switzerland, I was told that: There is an international warranty card in the box. This card has to be filled in and stamped by the dealer. Only than the warranty is vaild in the Switzerland if the product was bought outside the country. Your information suggests the contrary, so now I am a bit confused... |

I have seen some reviews of the 16-50mm DA* on the B&H website which have highlighted various problems. I am very interested in buying this from B&H as the price is seemingly unbeatable. The reviews in question seem to have the problems resolved, but then they are in the U.S. anyway, what would happen to purchasers from outside the U.S.?

Just joined, and am totally unprepared for this, I joined this forum as I've recently bought a K-5, and this forum seems the obvious choice, a font of knowledge... I bought the 100mm f2.8 DFA WR Macro lens as a start as I enjoy discovering the possibilities of macro photography, no doubt I'll add to this at some stage, but at the moment I am at the bottom of the learning curve with this camera. I am very happy with my choice, it's a superb camera, weather sealed too. It feels rock solid and very well made, also the DXO sensor rankings could not be ignored either. I still have my Olympus cameras, digital and film, I'm not sure I could part with them, but I think development in the DSLR department is not a priority there. The K-5 was the one that offered amazing potential at a price I could justify and the lenses on offer, with weather sealing, go to create a formidable package. All in all an exciting time ahead!
