Rondec, stunning photos!
I am quite fond of my DA 40mm. For landscape job, I actually prefer it to my DA HD 15mm. The 40mm is simply much sharper edge-to-edge.

Pablo, it's a pleasure to look at your photos, let the eyes go this way and that, taking in the details, the life of a city. :-)

Hi Adam,
"The Landscape Photography Workshop" by Ross Hoddinott and Mark Bauer is a great starter book with chapters on landscape composition and best locations (ISBN: 978-1-86108-891-8). It changed my approach to nature and landscape photography.

Martin

Cornholio, thanks for the tip. I'll take "the 15mm" out for a walk later. ;-)
Btw, to my surprise, at f/4.0 the lens does a decent job. Fairly good center sharpness:
EDIT: Actually I think that the center sharpness at f/4.0 is slightly better than at f/8.0. Test shot with 15mm Limited. f/4.0 by Martin Nystrup Rasmussen, on Flickr

I haven't figured out yet how to shoot acceptable sharp photos consistently with this lens.:hmm: At times it produces really soft photos, even with the camera mounted on a tripod and using "mirror lock-up". Especially the corners can be awfully soft. Then suddenly, to my surprise, it produces fairly sharp photos (the "sweet spot" seems to be around f/8.0). I am quite lost...

I am new to macro arthropod photography and quite excited by what I see through the lens.
I have been experimenting for months to find a satisfying solution to go beyond 1:1 magnification (I have the Pentax-D FA Macro 100mm/f2.8 lens).
After finally solving the "extension tube haze problem" (using light baffles of black card), I think I might stick to my current macro setup: A reversed MF 35mm/f2.0 lens, cheap extension tubes and a diffused flash.

Ah, my mistake but anyway, thanks for commenting and the tip. Maybe I shouldn't neglect my D FA Macro 100mm, then. That's a great lens.:-)

Photos taken with a reversed Pentax-M 35mm/f2.0 lens, cheap extension tubes and a diffused flash. The test subject is - unfortunately - a dead Andrena fulva.:-/

You need a step-down ring to adapt a smaller filter (Raynox/43mm thread) on a larger lens (D FA Macro 100mm/49mm thread). I haven't tried a step-down ring yet (ordered it on Thursday, though) but using a step-down ring makes more sense to me than the other way around.

Martin

Hello Jay,
I've got the D FA 100mm Macro lens as well and just bought the Raynox DCR-250. The Raynox won't fit the lens unless you buy a step-down ring (49mm-43mm). The Raynox has a 43mm thread.

I'm new to flash photography. I want to buy a second flash for some extreme studio macro photography (my main flash is a Metz Mecablitz 50 AF-1, my camera a Pentax K-5).
I was thinking about buying a Metz Mecablitz 36 AF-5 but I'm lost here: Can I fire it wirelessly (P-TTL remote mode) as a slave unit triggered by the 50 AF-1 (connected to the K-5 with an off-camera cord)?

Martin

Incredibly sharp photos! Absolutely stunning. Now I'm really undecided what to buy in the near future - the DA 15mm, DA* 50-135mm or this one.

Dice, thank you.:-)
I think that the photos taken with the lens are generally sharp and colourful. However, on one occasion I've experienced an odd auto focus error using the battery grip to focus. Well, in fact I couldn't focus at all - not until jeg turned the camera off and then back on.
