It has helped out a lot, thank you Chip! I, like you don't have the finances right now to upgrade to a K-5, and also need to maximize the my K-7's abilities. I tell you, this camera is really an amazing tool, and with people like you it becomes even more so! I sometimes feel a bit left out when I say I have a K-7, but with posts like this I feel good to have it again! :)
I think in our upgrade gone mad world (and I'm guilty of it too, I am a HUGE techie, smartphone and gadget guy :D ), we sometimes fail to appreciate the things we do have. In these horrible economic times, I think it's more important than ever to do so. Now, we shouldn't stop wanting to upgrade or move on, up or whatever, but we should try to make the best out of our current situation. I am also a HUGE Railroad and Model Railroad guy, and photog goes right along with those :D

Great article, thanks! It's certainly encouraging, I hope this goes for the U.S. Division as well, and not just the UK or Europe. Pentax can get a lot of business here from Nikon and Canon if they work at it, Canikon can't be king forever in America, or can they?

Not for me, I'm new to both this site and the DSLR World, I can withdraw my support (support which I gladly gave to this site within two days of joining by the way) and go away if you'd like though ;) If you were so upset by the thread, why didn't you just lock it right away?

I would hope this site is above marketing influences, I am sure people come here to get support, learn new things and make friends, not be subjected to what "marketing" wants them to see ;) Speaking of B&H, that's who I bought my K-7 from early last month :) I believe in this site, which is why I became a supporter the day I joined.

Good point, I mean the K-7 only came out in 2009, the same year as the EOS 7D, but it doesn't seem to be cast by the wayside just because it's 2 years old. Now, as far as computers go 2 years is old, but not for camera's, at least I keep mine longer than that. If it's a matter of bandwidth, I can understand that, but I think the site would survive having another dedicated forum for the K-7.

Yeah, but neither is Pentax as a brand, at least here in the US, where Canon and Nikon rule the roost.

I've noticed that, Nikon seems to have gone all out with their "Night Vision" ISO on the D5100 :D

I'm happy with it, and I don't plan on doing a lot of low light photos anyway, so I'm set :) Maybe I'll move on up eventually, but for now I'm content to make the best out of what I think is a fine camera, and I bet every camera, even the high end ones are being derided, somewhere ;)
Edit-I am also a beginning SLR guy, so this camera will keep me busy learning for a while :D

This may sound cliche, but I say use what works for you, no matter what brand or camera that may be. Me, I chose Pentax because I like the quality and I think they give you a lot better value for your money, and since I'm one of those Middle Class people (sadly, we're endangered), I don't have unlimited funds ;) I am fairly new to the SLR and DSLR World, but I think I found a good home, the Pentax Hilton :D

I did a search for that on here, but got a ton of pages, could you point me in the right direction to that fix? Thanks! I have just had mine for about a week now and I LOVE my K-7! I am fairly new to the SLR World, but to pick up this camera says quality, a sense I didn't get on the Canon' or Nikon's at the same price, I'm sure it has it's shortcomings but I am going to try to concentrate on it's strengths, and enjoy what I have. It seems many in the world today are so caught up in what they don't have that they never enjoy what they do have, and being a Computer/CellPhone/Tech,etc. Geek it's VERY easy to get caught up in that, let me tell you. As I progress, I may change models, or not, I will see where it all takes me, and my K-7 will be there for at least a few years.

Good question, it seems to me that most Pentax cameras should have their own forum, or would that be too bandwidth intensive?

I don't know whether it has or hasn't, I haven't been on here long enough to know, I just thought since it's still featured on Pentax USA's site, and it's fairly new (2009 isn't that old, the EOS 7D came out then, and it's still very much in the limelight) it should be on here. Thanks for the group tip, I'll have to check it out.

Yeah, that is weird, I know the Canon EOS 7D came out in 2009 as well, but as far as I know it's still in production. As long as Pentax continues to provide support and firmware upgrades for it though, I'm okay with it, being a techie I know how fast things change nowdays, and I've learned this-it's okay to keep up with things and want the newest stuff, but be happy with with you have and try not to let what you don't have ruin what you do :) I got the official 2 year extended warranty from B&H for it as well, so I'm covered there for 3 years at least ;)
