Got to agree. Don't think I have ever seen such a shot before. A bee caught in flight like that is amazing.

Haven't just raided our blueberry bush of most of its ripe blueberries, I am salivating over that great photo of plump delicious fruit! Those photos of the Mustang are outstanding. I wish my car looked as good.

These racing photos should be in a magazine. Amazing panning skills, and the water splashing up into that first car really makes that photo come alive. Wow!

Hi AJW85,

Your photos are fantastic. You might want to clean your sensor, though. It looks like there's a piece of dust right in the middle at the top.

All of the latest photos are amazing.

These photos are ALL stunning. I think the k-r is a camera that should be kept on the market. I know that Costco in the US is selling them via online. I hate to see such a great camera moved off to the side and retired.

You guys are posting some unbeilievably beautiful photos. And Flying Jocks Man, I also perused your Flicker photos of the kiln, and those are also incredible. You guys all have a real eye for creativity and beauty. Gabriel, the same to you. Your photos here and on your Flicker stream are absolutely amazing. This camera really was discontinued way too soon, in my opinion. You all are proving the incredible quality images it can produce.

Thanks for posting these.

Steve,

Nice job on the video. Very interesting. That sequence of your pooch trotting in for a quick stretch and roll was great and shows how much we all have in common on this little planet.

Thanks.

You all are awesome. The panning shot of the Nordic skier and those beautiful shots from Australia are showing what great potential this camera has. Thanks for posting. I have some up on Facebook but am not sure how to link to them.

I think these (Twix's photos) were taken with a K-5, not a K-R, probably with prime lenses.

Nice photos, but not taken with a K-R. I have a k-r and am very impressed. I will post one of my son taken in very poor lighting that came out well. That photo taught me that if I pay attention to what the camera is telling me, I can get very nice photos.

Wow, these photos are terrific. Could you guys post your exif data? These are really encouraging as far as quality. I'm wondering what lenses were used with these photos? Kit or other?

These last ones by Loveless and the rest are absolutely amazing. It's funny, but I REALLY LIKE that car photo, Loveless. It simply shines. I think you could have easily sold that to a car publication.

All of these recent photos are absolutely great. Would love to know the exif data on ALL of them.

I better get out and start taking some photos.

I read somewhere that enabling shake reduction in conditions where it is not necessary could also lead to soft focus. Does that make sense?

[quote?=RioRico;1765942]Quite right! More specifically: With a wide aperture for thin DOF, the picture is sharp at the *distance* you're focused. With a fairly flatfield lens (which is most of them now), if you shoot a straight wall or fence while facing it directly (perpendicular), the whole wall should be sharp, while objects before and behind it won't be. As you tighten the aperture, say going from f/4 to f/8 to f/16, then DOF thickens and more objects away from the wall (the subject plane) will be in focus.

Yup. An option for dealing with a tighter aperture and slower shutter is to use a tripod, with 3-second shutter delay. But a well-lit subject on a sunny day may let you shoot with a tight aperture, fast shutter, and low ISO, especially with SR on.

Hard to tell with that small image and my deteriorating eyes, but it looks like the tree is in focus and the background (BG) is OOF (out of focus), which is the kind of effect that emphasizes the tree. If you'd wanted the BG sharp also, you'd stop-down to maybe f/8 or f/11 or even f/16.

Modern lenses have strengths and weaknesses. Strength: With AF, you can nail the focus on a subject pretty well. Weakness: AF lenses don't have DOF scales inscribed on them, so getting MORE than the subject in focus can be tricky. DOF manipulation is more straightforward on manual-focus (MF) lenses.

It's just necessary to learn stuff like this: Set the camera to MF. Set the DA18-55 kit lens to 21mm with its aperture at f/11, and set focus to 2m. Now you'll have sharp DOF from 1m to infinity. How do I know that? Because that's what I learned using a manual-focus 21mm lens with a DOF scale on it.[/quote]

Way to set photo defaults?

I sure appreciate the responses. They are all terrific. I did know about Custom Image, but I am still not sure how to make it a default. I do like to shoot in RAW, but there are times when I shoot JPGs. I'll check the manual under Custom Image to see if there is a way to set that as the default.

Thanks again for all of the great information. The K-R is a terrific camera. It is amazing how much functionality and quality you get for the buck.

Regards to all.

Way to set photo defaults?

This is probably a dumb question, but I couldn't find an answer in the manual. Is there a way to set photo defaults to, say, richer color and sharper images without having to reset it everytime you take a photo? In other words, for most modes, can I set a default that can accomplish the above?

Thanks for any help.
