As a K5 User, i just bought a Olympus XZ-1 Refurbished.

The main goal is to carry it with me all the time, with the K5 that's not possible, i already had a k10D stolen in the car. Realy loved the reviews and JPEG quality.

Let's see of i'm going to have the K5 for RAW and XZ-1 for JPEG :)

I think that one move nice from Pentax would be to kind of open the firmware on the DSLRs to others, this way they would have a community with them expanding features and correcting others, which would create an wave of interest. For example, see what hapened with magic lantern firmware for Canon and Panasonic. There are people buying Canon and Panasonic for the reason that others unlock the camera true potential.

I'm pretty sure that even us here at Pentaxforuns would be able to achieve very nice things if the opportunity was given to us.

This would be good for Pentax even on creating new product releases. Sensors are soon becamimg to a point where with the current silicon technology they can't grow much further, so the rest left will be Processing power and Software. Hacking into the firmware would open a lot of opportunities and nice features.

What PC configuration is capable of running premiere and after effect cs5 smoothly??

Another idea for those who want OSX Snow Leopard or even Lion but don't want to spend too much money could be to build a custom hackintosh. I'm thiking on doing it. Tonymacx86 has already some build configurations that works almost directly out of box. See CustoMac Builds These are based on the Intel Sandy Bridge and for what i understand the only think to be care about it's the mainboard and video card. everything else we should be able to play around with the configuration.

I've Bought the Zoom H1 and now i'm waiting for the Schock Mount to Arrive in order to do some serious testing. It was the chepeast one, and currently it seems that it is the one most used on HDSLR. Since i'm only going to use the Video Mode for Family and Friends it's more than enough :D

After trying with Mics connected to Mic port of my K5, i've just decided to buy a Zoom H1 and sync in post with Dual Eyes. The only issue with this is that Dual Eyes it expensive for the future use that i' going to give it. Does any one know a freeware version of any similar Software? I'm currently using the Trial.

It's actually very nice to work when the camera is mounted on a tripod. Next i think i'm going to Invest on a Shoulder Pad from ebay like this one: Video Camera tripod Hand-Free Shoulder Support pad it's cheap and it should do the job for keeping one Hand available to Manual Focus.

Beginner's guide to video with Pentax?

I've just tested with a old Skype PC Micro, and i must say, that it outperforms by far the Inside Mic and the Crappy Shenggu Sg108 shotgun that i have. The Audio is crisp and clear and it seems (i don't know why) that there is no AGC messing around. And this means that the K5 is powering well the Micro.

Tascam DR-07 MK2 vs DR05 vsZoom H1 vs H2

Hello to all,

After being very frustrated with the AGC issue when using an external mic, i start searching for alternatives, and now i'm lost between 4 choices (well actually it's more 2):

I was seing:

- Zoom H1 (99$)

It seems from all the most used for HDSLR. Nice price, sound and size. It's also the easiest to mount on top of the camera.

- Zoom H2 (139$)

Instead of having two mics on XY it has four and it has the capabiltie of recording Surround Sound.

- Tascam DR-05 (99$)

Same price as Zoom H1, well built but i think Zoom H1 has similar sound, it's lighter and easier to have mounted on HotShoe.

- Tascam DR-07MKII (149$)

More expensive than the H1 and DR05 but considered to be better, although i don't not why i don't see too much reviews using it for HDSLR has the Zoom ones.

Does anyone have opinions on this?

Sharp lens in movie mode. It as important as in photos to have sharp lens for Movie? I'm asking this because we can find those M Lens at F2 or F2.8 which for photography are not considered top performs because they are a little bit soft wide open, but, at movies does that really maters?? f not we can buy some very good Manual focus lens at a very low price.

Why Full frame?
For those who already have a bunch of DA Lenses, or equivalent of other brands, it means shifting lenses, just for avoiding the crop factor and have better DOF, since it's more than proved tha IQ is no longer an issue at APS-C.

Cheap Follow Focus Solution

Hello to all,

I'm just starting to gearing to shoot video on my K-5, and one of the things that i want to buy/have is something to help a smooth focus. And i've comed accross with this great solution.

Youtu.be

It's a Silicone Twist Jar Opener, thet will surve as a follow focus system.
It's very easy and fast to assemble and use, and on top of this, since it's made of silicone, if we use the rubber side of it, it seems to give a very smooth effect.

You can find these very cheap on ebay.

Is just have one question. It's really only a firmware thing? The manual controls i mean.

-> The file compression i preffer as it is on the K5, this way i don't need to convert to anything to start processing it and larger SD Cards are becaming cheaper.
-> the AF i don't think is that important and long as i have a good focus ring or adapter.

The Nikon D7000 is considered to be better on Movies than the K5, since they share the same CMOS sensor and in hardware design the main diference maybe the CPU, it should be possible to achieve the same possibilities besides the file compression (it needs the CPU to do it). NO?

It's not weird. He's using 1/3 stops EV increments. If he uses 1/5 EV increments or use X dial mode he should be fine with 1/180s.

Regarding the P-TTL HSS Master... i wonder if it would trigger wirelessly other manual flash above the 1/180s. Need to try it.
