DA*55 or DA 70

Up until recently I owned both, but just sold the 70mm. I bought the 70 after the 55, having convinced myself that even if the difference in focal lengths was subtle it was worth having both. It turns out that in my relatively unskilled hands the difference was so small that one or the other was going to be redundant, and the 55 won out. To my eye I found 'short tele' a lot more useful and useable than 'slightly less short' tele, both for shooting people and landscapes.

Kit lens for landscapes?

Yup nearly all of the 18mm images are HDR - something I don't do much now as I use the Enfuse plugin in Lightroom most of the time instead. Come to think of it the Limited shots are all using a K-5 whereas Kit Lens shots are K20D...so maybe not the most helpful of comparisons actually but glad the link to the stat sorter was useful if nothing else!

Kit lens for landscapes?

Hey Stan,

I shoot mostly landscapes, started out with 18-55mm alii but now use da15 and da21 amongst others. If you go here: Les statistiques exifs de vos photos sur flickr and input username 'james whitesmith' you can interrogate shots by focal length to see the different results (anything at 18mm is going to be kit lens).

All the shots are resized and PPd but hopefully you can get a feel for the IQ...personally now that I'm used to the rendering of the Ltds I'd struggle to go back to any zoom, never mind the kit lens.

Lens arrived yesterday, haven't had a chance to use it properly but just to say it is better than described, virtually mint, and packing was first rate. Looking forward to getting out with it asap now! Thanks a lot.

I'm certainly looking forward to delivery and getting out with it, it's step 2 of 3 in my '3 prime plan', hopefully one day I'll add a DA15mm to go with this and the DA*55mm!

Hi there,

I've been a member here for some time but haven't posted anything yet, seems like as good a time as any for my first post though, followed by a lens review or 2...

Just want to say thanks to everybody who contributes to the forum, the amount of useful information here is invaluable, and what isn't useful is usually hilarious so in the end everyone's a winner!
