Went to a workshop today, small crowd, only 4 participants and 2 tutors, of course I was the only one with a Pentax. The interesting part was that two of the other participants, (both young females, one a Nikon shooter, one Canon) independently said to me 'Yours must be a very expensive camera (K-5 with batt grip and Fa 100 WR) it looks so impressive'. This tells me two things. One, They are correct, the K-5 is impressive, and two, they had never heard of Pentax before. Little did they know my stuff probably cost around the same as theirs (a D-90 and not sure which Canon) but it is MUCH better quality.
One up for Pentax!

As far as I can remember, I haven't seen any pentax in my life. The first one I am going to see is the one arriving home next week, the Pentax K30.
I only see the canon straps everywhere (and sometimes I can spot a Nikon one)

You might want to sell of the 18-55 and get the 18-135 for the WR instead.

No, I will not buy it, but I will complain incessantly about its unavailability until then.

Well photography is like painting: it teaches you how to look and really see things. Painters and photographers therefore notice nice scenes, interesting subjects and beautiful moments much quicker then others. They have trained themselves to do so.
I personally noticed this some time after I got into photography, I started seeing very nice scenes, even in my boring daily trip to work. More and I more I thought: "Dang! I wish I had my camera with me right now!" That was caused by being into photography.

Yes, in fact part of what you are saying is that interesting things, whether beauteous or not, exist all around us, if we but take the time to notice. That mind-set is what photography has brought to me - slow down, observe, absorb. Even in the commonplace the world has a lot to offer.

I shoot RAW because one day I'll be good enough at post processing.

I really like the ominous colours to this. The browns, reds, and grey clouds make an interesting atmosphere. Canoe Point 2 by dcBear78, on Flickr

I'm really surprised by the capabilities of the Pentax K-30, i was Nikon man before, but i'm glad now i've switched to Pentax.
This is just a start, i shoot mainly sport (motorcycle) photography, and i've done these with the kit 18-55 while i'm waiting for the 55-300 (thou i want to collect the funds for Sigma 120-300 f2.8). Shooted in raw, then "fixed" in photoshop ;)
comments are welcomed as always

When journeying, I take effort not to: 1) antagonize armed people, 2) step in front of speeding vehicles, and 3) lose my memory cards. For the latter, I keep an old zip-up calculator carry case in my Ameribag. In this case are backup batteries, memory cards, and MiniMagLite bulbs. When it's card-swap time, one comes out and one goes in. In a little attache is my mini-Laptop and a card-reader. When it's image-download time, card comes out of camera (or calculator case) and into the reader, my move-files script runs, and the card goes right back into camera (or case). Nothing lost, nothing ventured, no stinking ID.

I dont think you need the extreme III Sandisk, just Ultra or Ultra II is enough. CMIIW though.
If that Sigma flash has tilt and swivel, then you're probably covered for the most part.
Lens selection is very good :)

Are these FA lens..? If so, it sound like you have all the lens you need to get started with a K-r. If not, the DA55-300 is a great option, so 55-200 might become expensive kit paperweight if you need the reach.
Something else to consider might be the UWA range. I have a Sigma 10-20, and this is fantastic for many applications, and at the 18-20mm range I find it much better that the DA18-55. Kit is fairly good from about 24mm upwards, but I find it poor at the 18mm end.

Definitely get a second battery, but know that the lithium one that comes with it is really, really good. I've only run low a couple times on any given day, and only when using the flash extensively (Live View will drain it pretty quick too, but I rarely use it).
