Your 1.7 50mm is an excellent macro lens by using a reversing ring. It screws on like a lens filter and has a bayonet mount on the front. This lets you put the lens on your camera backwards. Results are surprisingly good. You focus by moving the camera. It's a cheap alternative!

Bought my *ist DL and 18-55 with a 1GB card on-line from Abes of Maine in 1996. There was a Pentax rebate that was applicable too. I didn't get all the other stuff they would also bundle up for extra $ as it was cheaper to buy what I really needed one at a time on-line.

I've since bought 6 k or m42 screw mount lenses of e-Bay and am absolutely delighted with the quality I've gotten for the price. - 50mm f1.4 for $30 / 100mm f4 bellows lens for $25

Have fun and welcome

Welcome aboard. You're going to like this site. I'm a Canuk living in Wisconsin who's been shooting casually for 40 years. I went digital 5 years ago and justy got an *istDL last year. I've been using a lot of M42 lenses with pretty good results.

You'll find the feedback and comments on pictures from other Forum members most helpful. :o

It was late at night as I headed back to my hotel in London. The St. Pauls tube station has a very long escaltor that intrigued me enough to ride it down four times before I got the shot I kept.

Looking at potential images through a different "lens" lately as I've been playing with black and white from color in Photoshop. As always, contructive criticism is very welcome. :o

I'm quickly learning that there are limits to the imaging technology. I do push the limits sometimes and get surprising results though. I can better deal with under-exposed images than over-exposed (usually can't do much of anything!)

Had a few minutes to view your work on your web site. I'm eager to return tonight to learn more from work that very much resonated with me.

Thanks for taking a look and giving feedback.

Thanks Steve ~ I've got several saved files between the original and this one. I seemed to like the washed out effect; almost watercolored. I'll go back tonight and see what I can do with your suggestions.

I'm starting to understand the capabilities of Photoshop Elements and have recently begun to use dodging and burning techniques. The two samples below show an original picture (*istDL with 18-55) and the "adjusted" image after about 2 minutes of messing about.

I'd like to hear your feedback on:
- editing ~ how much is too much
- composition
- sharpness
- really, any feedback will help me grow

Thanks in advance........

Picture #1 is of a tree and #2 is of a sky.

The B&W draws you in. The color shot just sits there.

You know how to set the bar HIGH!! :hmm:

I've just picked up an old M42 100mm macro and need to get bored! What speed were you shooting the water drops at? They're excellent.

I like the look too. With a fast lens (f1.4) shot wide open and moving right in on the subject, the background blurs wonderfully. The old M42 screw lenses give beautiful warmth to these kind of shots.

Thanks for the positive feedback.

Photoshop elements helps. Minor saturation, dodging and a very small bit of sharpening does magic. I also tend to shoot at sunrise or sunset with warm light.

I'm new to the forum and haven't really shared photos with a goal of getting feedback and suggestions. I'm using an array of lenses but seem to prefer primes versus zooms.

M42 Lenses on *istDL
Posted By ombre

I'm trying to use several M42 lenses on my *istDL. I've gotten good results but have trouble focusing to infinity when they're wide open. I'm guessing it's the adapter. It does not "lock in" when inserted and seems to just tighten. :(

I'm looking for advice or recommendations on where to get an adapter to address the issues I've got.

I'm pleased with some of the results I've gotten with a 50mm f1.4 and have them posted in my gallery.

Thanks,

OMBRE

Combined Locks Newbie

Joined up yesterday. I live in Combined Locks Wisconsin. A great place to be a photographer.

I'm a Pentax fan (less than 18 months) who went DSLR (*istDL) from a Nikon Coolpix 8700.
I'm hooked!! Started with the 18-55 and have since gotten into a wide array of prime and zoom lenses, including M42. (lots of glass for the $)

My favorite lens is the smc 15/3.5 A (aspherical) which was given to me by a die-hard UK Pentax user.

I've posted a couple of pictures on this site already.

Looking forward to talking M42 and macro in the future.

Pentax SMC 3,5/15mm?

I was fortunate enough to have the rare 1st version Pentax SMC 15/3.5 with ONE aspherical element given to me. It came via Egypt and the UK. The giver had no idea what he had. There were only about 100 made. They go for $1200-1500

It's my favorite lens in my collection. I'm using it on an *ist DL camera with fabulous results. I'm amazed at the hand-held interior photos I've taken without a flash.
