i never use AWB, i just take the time to set it myself
sometimes i muff it up and get oompa loopmas in all my shots

how close were you to her face with the camera? 50cm (a yard) away?

holy crapola
those pictures look way better than the hundreds of pictures i took on holiday in queensland
just the color the crispness
or maybe i just take really crappy photos
well the general consensus is that it is an excelletn lens. and looking ag the 77 adn 44 , it is also extremely cheap in the world of dSLR lenses.
i have a 4 million dollar bag too, really good bag
but the handle at the top stretches too much, stupid thing, and i thought the material was supposed to be top notched. its like an arch at the top of my bag now. stupid handle. good bag though
hinman, i think you're oversusing low apetures just for the sake of it and having blur. alot of your images have way to small DOF and it aint that great

what? why wouldn't it fit? it says Pentax on the lens and Pentax all have the same mount
and the guy has four eyes!!!
but really, i dont see the difference with an 85 and my 18-200, this is getting hard
i probably shouludn't have made two topics on the same subject, sorry my bad

i recommend you buy a $30 charger
and get 8 Energizer 2500mA batteries for about $40
they last hundreds of charges, and allow you to take 200-300 pictures
i think the 1700mA power on those batteries are a bit low

portraits are definately an area i want to be getting into and wnat to really work on
that 77mm is a thousand bux! and the 44 is 700 bux!
i'm sure they are bloody excelent lenses
i have the opportunity to pick up a Pentax 50mm 1.4 for $200, so i still have to debate that purchase
and shooting in low light with my current lens is a bitch

because i just came back from a holiday and a few of my pictures were a bit shaky and they were good pictuers too that i wanted to keep and i just got a bit annoyed

i've read that there is some distoriotn of those expensive 50mm 1.4 and the best aperture to use on them is about f4 - f5 anyway
and i'm not understanding what you mean by softer pictuers and less skin imperfections of the model
i thought the point of having a good camera/lens is seeing every little itty bitty detail even if the detail isn't flattering
she did already have a bit of make up on
that first pic turned out quite well i must admitt, i was tyrign to do a bit of "girl with pearl earring" thing, it was one of my first ever pictures taken with my camera, and one of my first ever using a dslr
i suppose it would just help with sharpness and less distortion right? and allow low light shooting. i'm having alot of trouble at the moment, when i'm shooting indoors with just the one tungsten lightbulb.
i think that shot was taken at 80mm now that i think about it, the lower f stop it can go to is about f5, which is what i used to for that picture

I know my K100D Super has shake reduction, but does it do anything at all??
i think it does jack all. i've pretty steady hands and my elbows are pressed right up against my body, even when i lean against a wall photos can still come out shaky
what the hell is the Shake Reduction function even doing? is my camera broken or something?
heres a few samples, the first taken in indoors low light at 50mm, and second outdoor nighttime at 200mm. maybe .5s shutter time nothing too long
how much does the Shake Reduction actually reduce camera shake?
i'm getting a tripod soon, but when going on a trip you just can't bring a tripod along

i dont think it has anything to do with the camera
if the sun rays are there, they're there, you can't create them with the camera only caputre them

is any of this possibly on my K100D Super?
i wish i could quickly set the ISO withough have ing to troll through t Fn Menu
or at least you shouldn't need to press the Fn button
you should be able to do it by just pressing the arrow. whats the point of having to pretty the Fn button at all?

I have a Sigma 18-200mm DC 3.5-5.6 atm and use 50mm focal length for alot of protaraits i do
i'm just wondering how much better a 50mm 1.4 would really be?
the images i take are aready really good and sharp and have plenty of detail i my opinoion
i'm just not sure that spending another three hundred dollars to upgrade to that lens is really worth it
whats the difference really? apart form the faster aperture steting which really isnt' all that useful anywya, because f5 is enough, but i guess it would help in low light situations i guess
heres a sample pictures from my 18-200 and i think its perfect. how much better can it possibly get?

hi guys,
i was wondering what aperture setting would be adequate for a highly detailed background as well and a clear focused foreground
would f11 do?
i see alot of potraits with blurred backgrounds, but when on holiday you want the whole scene too
at f11 i find the shutter speed is set a little low and the picture suffers from camera shake
on a cloudy and semi-sunny day, what shutter speed would that equate to?

cool thanks guys, just one thing Igiligan,
i've read you should always give your subject space to look into.
for exapme the picture with the toddler there should be more space on the left and the picture ont he bottom there should be space for teh subject to look into on the right
thats just a general rule i read, but they dont have to be followed of course
i think the pictures would have looked better with that

i have recently bought the K100D and its a good camera
wish it could take more than just 5 continious shots but that doens't matter too much
there doesn't seem to be many wheels and buttons on it, and i thought that that would piss me off
but after actually using it for the first time, the shutter speed, and apeture can be easily set quickly using the e-dial
but you do have to dig into the menu for RAW on/off and ISO settings
but that doesn't take terribly long, I dont think its worth the extra money for a K10D. there just isn't that many essential extra features on it
as stated above, what really makes or breaks your shots is a lens. save your money and buy one zoom lens, and a few good prime lenses to fit your purposes
in my case, i have a 18-200mm and going to go by a 50mm or a 77mm for portraits

my K100D Super was my first ever camera
my gf bought a Canon IXUS 70, and we went on holiday and i just couldn't put the thing down, i never realised how much i love taking pictures of things. anything and everythign i took a picture of.
and been the same way since i got my camera, love it.
took me about 4 months to decide to spend a whooping wad of cash on a dSLR
