2015 Brompton S2L

Bought it second hand last month and like it very much.
But it needs still some tuning in the meaning of improving: installing dynamo light and the switching from two-speed to three-speed are the next two big changes, other like better tires, grips and bar ends are also on the way.

Do you have no sound at all or just with these two programs?
Do you have any relevant error messages if you start these programs from the command line in an xterm or similar?
Do these programs have debug options?
Are there other programs with similar functionality for your needs?

Ricoh Imaging Europe made an offer I could not re...sist: an UP 10x21 for free with every binocular over 249€. Where should I post my first impressions?
Do we want to start over with a fresh thread, because the older threads are fairly dedicated or fairly old or both? In my head there is the old Usenet-like motto "show traffic, get sub forum".

Perhaps it's a good idea to start a "not too specific" thread in the Pentax Camera and Field Accessories sub forum.

One of my next acquisitions will be a Pentax AD 7x32 ED as a relatively small and modern binocular - most of my other binoculars (vintage Pentax and Carl Zeiss Jena) are Porro type and fairly bulky.

The Squirrel Mafia's new & improved RawTherapee thread!

Before I started to investigate I did an update of the lensfun database.
The precompiled RT 5.9 here shows the same problem - despite in the metadata display all seems to be correct: in the EXIF folder and the Maker Note folder all entries "Focal Length" show 20mm.
The RawTherapee fork ART (version 1.20.1) displays the focal length correctly as well as darktable 4.4.2, also exiftool shows the correct focal length.

That's why I assume it's a bug in RawTherapee.
Currently there is no open issue for that but it seems that there were similar issues in the past: Issues · Beep6581/RawTherapee · GitHub

The solution would be to open an issue for RawTherapee.
Perhaps using ART could be a workaround for you.

According to your list of equipment we do have some stuff in common: K-3II, HD DA21, DA40XS, DA35. If the problem occurs with at least one of these combinations then I should be able to reproduce it.
I'll do some sleuthing whether one of my lenses and Pentax cameras show the same problems in the next days. If so, I'll open an issue on Github.

Edit: Does the problem appear only with the K-3III? Could you please check that?

Not yet, unfortunately.
But I could have a look on it on my system.

Which version of RT do you use?
Could you please provide a RAW file where the problem appears?

Finally I've got an 18-135 again - and on the first glance it seems to be a fairly sharp copy.
The 1.8/50 was part of the mispurchase KP.
Mispurchase because - despite I only took a few test image with it - the KP already makes me want a K-3III as it's bigger sibling.

The ART Raw Developer Thread (RawTherapee fork)

The developer answered with two solutions and a Pentax specific workaround for the WB presets.

The first solution is: download the source from the git repository and compile ART for yourself.
The second solution is: wait for the next version of ART.
The workaround is: make a backup of your wbpresets.json. Change the "make_model" strings for the K-S1 to "RICOH PENTAX K-S1" and for the K-70 to "RICOH PENTAX K-70". Save the file and start ART again.

The workaround works for images from the K-3II and the K-S2.

Hope this helps,

Probably you are using RAW files. As far as I know these muted colours are intentionally. The reason is to have a "linear" image to start with.
Imho the new "sigmoid" module can be a reasonable start to get popping colours.

Try to delete the database lock file manually.
I don't use darktable on Windows, so please take my statement cum grano salis.
According to this post: Darktable doesn't start on Windows 10 - Darktable Forum you'll find the lock file in the directory C:\Users\\AppData\Local\darktable with the file name "data.db.lock".
Please make sure that no darktable process is running which can lock the lock file.

Hope this helps,

Update: Seemingly the WB presets for ART are stored in a file "wbpresets.json" either in the ART installation root directory or in ~/.config/ART/wbpresets.json
Despite having "K-S2" as a model description in a paragraph of that wbpresets.json, ART doesn't show the camera WB presets.
Fortunately discuss.pixls.us is back. I'll ask the developer later.

There are good news and bad news.
The good news: someone else with a Canon camera encountered the same behaviour and asked in the discuss.pixls.us forum, where the ART developer is active.
The bad news: pixls.us is currently offline and the Internet archive doesn't have a snapshot of that thread. So we have to wait until pixls.us is back and hopefully the thread is still there and provides an answer...

That's strange.
I could reproduce that with files (DNG and PEF) from a K-S2 and a K-3II.
With files from K-5II and K-5IIs the submenu is there.

I'll go through the settings of the cameras to find some differences which may cause that behaviour.

I wasn't aware that the contents of the ART-1.20-linux64.tar.xz file weren't an AppImage, but just the Linux binaries with additional files and directories.
I went through the process you described without creating a launcher. Obviously I've seen enough such archives that I'm used to it now and don't think about it.
Sorry for that.

In many cases the openSUSE Build Service (OBS) provides packages of software for several package managers like dpkg/apt in case of Debian/Ubuntu/Mint and derivates or rpm in case of Redhat/Fedora/etc.
Unfortunately until now there is no build for Mint on OBS.
I prefer software installation via the native distribution package manager. That's why I referred to OBS.
To mention Garuda/Arch was just an offering for help if that is your distribution.

But: you got the latest ART running on your system and that's the most important thing.

On the ART homepage there is a link to the downloads. The latest version I just found is 1.20.1.

Because you mentioned "AppImage" I assume your computer is running Linux.

For my Garuda Linux systems (based on Arch Linux) I prefer the build via AUR. It's fairly easy and if there are any questions about that I probably can help.
For other distributions please have a look at the openSUSE Build Service: Show graphics / ART - openSUSE Build Service

Hope that helps,

Both RawTherapee (RT) and darktable (dt) are very capable tools for developing RAW files.

I'd like to add ART as a fork of RT somewhere between dt and RT. ART has got the perspective correction from dt, improvements compared to RT and some RT tools removed.
ART and RT can handle Pixel Shift images from Pentax cameras and at the moment they can remove dead and hot pixels in monochrome images, which dt probably will get in the next version at christmas 2023.

At least on Linux dt can use the power of the graphics card for calculations which can boost the performance remarkably with iterative algorithms such as in the module "diffuse or sharpen".

The visible rough shape of the camera is one of the K-7, K-5, K-5II, K-5IIs, K-3 or K-3II.
Only one line of the model name eliminates K-5II, K-5IIs and K-3II.
The "SR" letters seem to be golden and the shape of the pentaprism housing in the area of the "PENTAX" logo seems to be chamfered.
That's why I think it's a K-3.

It's obviously a zoom lens and the knurling of the zoom ring is one of the older ones.
From my perspective the lens hood is quite long, the lens itself is relatively large too and the visible knurling ends short of the rear end of the lens.
That indicates for me that it is the DA*50-135.

K-70 Unexpected delay with long exposures

That was my thought, too: "Slow Shutter Speed Noise Reduction", where the camera takes a so called "dark frame" with the same shutter speed and ISO as the "real" image (so called "light frame").
The K-70 manual explains that behaviour on page 52: https://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/support/man-pdf/k-70.pdf

Is the camera configuration for ISO values "ISO auto" and "High-ISO NR" is different from "Off" (p. 57 of the manual)? Perhaps it could be another reason for the camera behaviour.

Hope that helps,

E.

That's the most important part in my opinion.
My main system is Pentax APS-C and the other system is m43 (I prefer the 3:4 aspect ratio for portrait mode, m43 is smaller and lighter in the (long) telephoto range, and video capabilities are undoubtedly better than on Pentax).
Recently I decided that the Panasonic GX8 has to go and I'll keep only the Olympus. I don't get used to the Panasonic user interface, the ergonomics of the Olympus is better and the ergonomics of the Pentax cameras are far better for me.

And to be honest: in my case the limiting element isn't the camera. I can take poor images with any system, even with a smartphone.
