 Why? I appears the K200D < K10D...
Functionally looks about the same as K10D except that it has "scene modes" (btw, do people acutally use those?) and take AA batteries. But its still lesser since in has a pent-mirror viewfinder, not pentaprism and only 4 frame buffer... I can't imagine it being a better value over the current prices on the K10D upon its release.

What are the financial implications...obviously you're going to sell for the K10D for a loss, is the net savings REALLY going to justify it? Not to mention the hassle of selling the K10D.
Seriously how much are we talking about $200-300? Seems like a silly move...

Excellent post...
Face it folks, Pentax is a niche player...
I would define Pentax's niche -- as value conscious (as opposed to label conscious), advanced amateurs (no offense to the pros here, but most pros DO NOT use Pentax DSLRs), and people with a large prior Pentax investment...
Unfortunately, it seems most people would rather pay more for Nikon or Canon models that provides less.... (Imagine having to pay an extra couple $ hundred per lens to get image stabilization -- madness).
That said, I will not be surprised if Sony eclipses Pentax in DSLR market share with its new models, purely based on marketing...something Pentax appears to be incapable of....

I dunno, but hopefully Hoya will clean house in the marketing dept... Pentax engineering is first rate, their marketing is the weak link...
The fact that their marcom team can't even keep the website up-to-date with respect to the current product line speaks volumes of the dismal state of the Pentax brand.

The Pentax brand carries almost no meaning to VAST majority in the US... its become one of the random brands from the past...like Packard-Bell, or what ever the name of the brand of electronics Radio Shack used to sell -- its pathetic.
The website is barely up to date... check out the Lens Compatibility Chart on the site  Pentax Imaging - Lens Compatability Chart
It doesn't even include ANY of the DSLR in the current product line... what a joke.... what kind of image does that portray?
Seriously, Pentax needs to get its marketing act together.

Nah, not that big of a hassle... just another thing to remember. But since I shoot RAW I can always correct it after the fact if I forget. So no big deal...
Funny thing is I have the opposite problem with my Panasonic HD Camcorder, does perfect AWB indoors, awful outdoors.... Go figure....

Thanks for the detailed info.
Interesting... I guess it one of those RTFM situations.
But based on what you say, it would be nice if the AWB could be manually set to work at lower ranges... other than the default 4000K-8000K. Is there a "technical reason" for this to be a limitation?
Anyway, glad to know my camera isn't a lemon and the AWB is performing as expected.

Actually, I have found it to work quite well with flash... I have it set to automatically switch the WB to Flash, when the flash is used. Its the incandescent lighting performance that appears to be make the AWB perform subpar...

Does anyone else find the Auto White balance to be horrible indoors? I want to know if this this is typical or if something is wrong with my camera.
I was shooting indoors (incandescent recessed lighting) with no flash last night, using my new 50mm F/1.4 and all the pictures looked yellow...
I shoot RAW so this was correctable, but still a pain in the ass Is there some advanced setting to that make the Auto White Balance perform better indoors or do I need to always remember to set it manually when shooting indoors with no Flash?
Seems like a pretty basic feature for Pentax to have goofed this badly on, perhaps they can improve this in a later firmware upgrade...

I've been a K10D owner for about 3 months now. Its' my first DSLR and I love it. What an amazing machine...:)
I'm glad to have found these forums so us Pentax people can unite to deal with the Nikon/Canon snobbery... ;) Way too many zombies in that camp...
