ah, think the camera's out of warrenty. My Dad's sent it off to get sorted anyway. That's a good thread, slightly worrying though.

Hi I think our K r has a fault but just in case it's a setup problem I though I would ask around here.
The problem is that the scroll wheel causes apature and shutterspeed to jump to their highest settings as soon as its adjusted.
After this there is no way to bring these back down to sensible numbers like F5.6 and 125th, the wheel does not work.
You are left with no way of re-setting from F32 and a 6000th of a second!! So of course every shot is so underexposed its just black.
While trying to trace the problem we have found that the camera is still capable of stopping the lens down and that the ISO setting does not make any difference, oh and yes, the lens cap had been removed:p
Has anyone on here had a problem like this, and how can it be fixed?

Thanks, I'll re post.
I supose 35mm isnt dead but as soon as we got a digital camera in the house I couldnt be bothered getting gettings film developed. I was at school and didnt have a lot of money! now digital's just too convenient.

Hi, My name's Adam, I used to use a pair of old Spotmatics about 10 years ago. When digital finaly killed film off I ended up with a Canon EOS300D, not a bad camera but anyway Ive just changed over to ist D. Its nice to have a Pentax again, shame all my old lenses were M42!
Anyway my Dad also has just got a Pentax K r, but it apears to have a problem, so Im hoping someone can give me a some advice on it?
The problem apears to be with the encoder for setting aperture and shutter speed. The encoder doesnt seem to work, it just makes both parameters jump up to the top of their range and get stuck there! so all the camera takes is black, under exposed photos.
Is the camera scrap?
