It's been a while so I don't remember for sure but I probably hadn't used it for a while. I do remember earlier this year it would be dark for only the first shot and then fine. But when I was on vacation in September I know I hadn't used the camera recently and the first time I tried to use it, I didn't think it was going to come back. It finally did after taking a couple dozen dark frames. Thankfully the moose and her two calves were still there!

K30, Mfg Date: 2012:07:06, Shutter count: 2864, Intermittent aperture block failure. A few shots with continuous shooting (hi) brings it back to life (for now).

This would be a great replacement for my K30 with aperture block failure. Seems to be a common theme...

Georgetown Loop in Colorado has a working Shay.
I did a quick search and found a working Heisler in Illinois at Silver Creek and Stephenson Railroad. Silver Creek and Stephenson Railroad
It's fairly close to me so I may have to take a trip! I find all steam locomotives fascinating, the geared variety even more so.
Thanks for sharing your pictures.

Absolutely beautiful photos! What settings did you use on your astrophotography shot? I think it turned out great.
I've spent a few weeks in Taylor Park and you captured it very well. You didn't happen to go home over Tin Cup Pass did you?
Thanks of sharing! :D

I should say that I really like the photo. The IR definately makes it a bit creepier!

I just bottled a batch of Two Hearted a couple of weeks ago. I can't wait to try it. :D
Nice setup, by the way. |

I got my new K30 (!) a couple of days ago and have been doing lots of playing. I was going to get the AA adapter but I don't have enough time before my trip to get the cheap one from China so I ordered the Opteka battery from Amazon ($10). I got it today and charged it up and it seems to work fine, but I did notice that it's rated at 2000 mAh versus the standard battery rated at 1050 mAh. I know there's been some comments on the small capacity of the battery so this may help with that. Heck, I'm only one bar down on my first charge with the standard battery with all the shooting, reviewing and digging into all the settings I've been doing.
I'll be giving them both (and the K30) a good test in the next couple of weeks on vacation in beautiful Colorado!

Great picture Matt. I enjoy all your pictures from the high country. I've been up to the tunnel a few times and even crawled down into it once.
I NEED a UWA! I have to upgrade my camera first though.
Thanks for posting. :)

That's the one. I've often thought about replacing it with the 16-45 or the 16-50 but couldn't do it. It's a very versatile lens. I was worried about the speed of the 18-135 too but I figure the greater sensitivity of the K30 over the K100 would more than cover the difference. :)

I'm in the same boat with my trust K100D. I can't decide if I should switch from my Sigma 17-70 to the Pentax 18-135.
Decisions, decisions!

I converted a Vivitar 28/2 from Konica to Pentax mount. I used the flanged M42 adapter like MattGunn.
I got around the registration distance difference because this lens has a very long focusing helicoid. I simply adjusted the infinity point and that was it.
Most lenses don't have that range of adjustment, unfortunately.

Great pictures! I love the San Juans. There are lots of jeep trails to explore.
I'm heading out there Friday for our annual pilgrimage. I can't wait!

If I run the search again after reading all 10 pages, I get the new posts that came in since I started on the first page and the same number cut off the end.
Even if I visit the forums at lunch and in the evening I bump up against the 250 post limit. It's a popular forum! :D

I used to be able to use the "New Posts" link at the top right of the main page and get all the new posts from the last time I marked them all read. Now I'm only getting 10 pages (it was 12 for a while). I've been through my settings and searched but haven't found an answer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
