Went on vacation and really started playing with my K-X. As I'm a newbie, I got lazy and just didn't clean my lenses enough, and when I got home, I found there were some annoying spots on my otherwise GREAT shots that I took with this camera. So, since it's obviously too late to retake these shots, is there a good software package (preferably free, but if it's inexpensive, I can deal with that too) that would help me clean up something like this? I tried using the software that came with the camera, but for some reason, after it loads the photos into it, it just crashes on my Windows 7/64 bit desktop. I've installed and reinstalled and this continues to happen.

You guys are the best and have put me at ease with my considered purchase of older lenses. Maybe down the road I'll want the latest and greatest and spend hundreds of dollars on lenses. But I doubt any advantage a new lense might have is going to make a huge difference to me at my novice level. I figure for under $100 I can "experiment" all I want and not feel that I'm being overwhelmed and have wasted a big investment.

Thanks for the description. The one I was looking at was an older Pentax Takumar lens 70-200. The reviews on here were pretty good and I can probably get it for under $50. Does it have the Ricoh Pin? I have no idea. The description says it's compatible with K-mount lenses, and as the A setting as described above.
Eventually I'll buy something newer and better and probably more expensive. But I don't want to lay out a lot of cash and then find I don't like it.

I have a K-x with the stock lense, and I am looking at some mega zoom lenses.. As I am new and don't want to shell out a lot of bucks to fool around with my new toy just yet, I've been looking on eBay and B&H and other sites for a used lense in good shape. I've noticed quite a few of the less expensive lenses are older film era AF zoom lenses. The reviews for the ones I've been looking seem positive. So outside of the obvious...the lense will be some years old, is there a major downside to using a film era lense on a DSLR?

I should mention that this will be for general use. I'm not looking to shoot anything specific, but just to play around with and get different shots and be able to zoom in on stuff worth zooming in on :)

I'm not sure what I'm looking for. 50-200? something like that?
I'm a real beginner with DSLR, so a lot of this is new to me. I've learned a lot so far on here. My last experience with digital photography has been with Fuji megazoom P&S cameras. I like the idea of zooming in close. I'd like to buy something that is simple to use until I really learn how to use the camera.

Hi all, I'm a newbie and just started playing with my K-x (it's awesome btw). The boss (my wife) has given me permission to purchase a zoom lens to use on our cruise in November. So I am looking for a good new or used inexpensive AF zoom lens. I'd like to keep the cost down below $150 (preferably under $100), which will mean PROBABLY I'll go the used market.
Any suggestions? I don't know a whole lot about this except what I read here on the forum and other places.

Thanks thanks. Got the new "toy" yesterday, took some great daytime shots. Just amazing!! Night time, still trying to figure it all out, but I'll get there. Lots of settings, so it's pretty daunting for a newbie. But I am going to learn and love :)

Thanks. Is there any disadvantage to using DNG as opposed to PEF?

Does a codec exist for either of the RAW formats? As I am just getting my camera today, and I used W7x64, I would like to be able to shoot in RAW format and have better control over my PP. It isn't something I've obsessed in using my P&S (I usually just use Windows Live Photo Gallery or Picasa for PP, and usually use the auto settings for quick and dirty editing), but for an advanced camera such as this, I know I will want "perfect" images :)

Hi everyone,
Just bought a refurb k-x and it should be arriving today!! I'm new to the world of DSLRs and only have marginal knowledge of photography beyond the P&S variety. Looking forward to learning and taking great shots. Bear with me as I start to flood the forum with stupid questions!!
