Info/Advice: Trip to India in April 2025 for Tigers and other wildlife

Tigers - I'd imagine they behave somewhat like leopards, tricky to spot and get a clear shot of most of the time, but when they're in the clear they may be pretty close all of a sudden. So, one camera with a long lens, one with a wide. Which ones, well, you know which lenses you like - and you have a good selection to choose from!

Gibbons? Looong lens! At least if they are as fond of treetops as I think they are. Of course, with such rich bird life you'd want to bring a long lens anyway. And before I forget to mention it, you'll probably want to bring a long lens.

I second Uncle Vanya's suggestion of the DFA100. As well as being a good macro lens it doubles as a fast short tele lens. Tropical forests can be pretty dark even at midday. And also as mentioned, the DFA100 works very well combined with the 1.4x TC.

As with all kinds of wildlife viewing in unfamliar habitats, a good guide is key, preferably one who knows a thing or two about photography.

Planning can be half the fun - if you enjoy the process. Just don't forget to sit back and enjoy the experience when you're there, whether it's according to plan or not. But you know that already ;)

Definitely better sounding than electric motors  EVs can be fast, though. The Rimac Nevera does 0-400-0 kph (0-250-0 mph) in less than 30 seconds.

Their name choice would be a bit unfortunate in Norway. 'Feit' means fatty or obese.

What, are you making fun at our prime Norwegian winter bikey things?!

(But nah, it's not a cycling channel, it's in the general Norway channel.)

I got stuck reading a "discussion" on Reddit, initialised by a Dutchman who wants to cycle through our mountains. Now, mid-winter. 95% of the participants try to dissuade the eediot while the rest call dibs on his bike.

His responds with things like
"Man its just a litte too much when there are hundreds of people saying terrible things." (Terrible things like "Please, don't do it"...)
"Are you familiar with yes theory?" (Sure, it works wonders on hypothermia!)
"If it gets too cold, I ask people if I can at least warm up inside and perhaps put a tent in the garden." (Umm, people? Gardens? In the mountains?)

A helpful German posted a link to a typical winter's day in the area where this dude wants to pedal his bike. Not that any help is welcome.

From the previous one, I haven't gotten to posting from the recent one yet. But we had a wonderful trip. We came up there just after some quite decent rain showers, the road was still quite muddy around Nossob. Seeing a green and flowering desert with water puddles was a treat :)

I spy a bird.

Buchbuck portrait - and a reflection selfie :D

The red spots in her ear are probably from an over-eager ox pecker - is my guess, anyway.

Nah, no rattlesnakes, wrong side of the Atlantic. Could maybe have been a puff adder, but I don't think they are as fond of climbing as the cape cobras.

The boomslang, rinkhals, and spitting cobra prefer wetter areas.

Nice rig! It would be a tad long and wide for some of the places we went - the Toyota got enough scratches as it was - but sure, a bigger vehicle built for more weight and with more power is always better to drive. Ok, within limits

Looks like a beautiful drive! Yes, it's steep and without guardrails, but as long as the road is as wide as it is I wouldn't mind driving it. I'm not saying there wouldn't be some adrenaline pumping through my system, but I eould definitely enjoy it.

I thought having separate public toilets for men and women was the norm most places? I suspect that cobras don't care, though. But yes, the male side had a urinal (and a toilet). I would guess the female had two toilets - I didn't check.

We're now more than a month past winter solstice, and around here we'll have 7.5 hours of daylight today - more than 1.5 hours up from Dec 21st :) And today the sun is out, too!
