My shutter mysteriously snaps without being touched, the Info page comes on when the camera is shut off, and the needle has vanished from my EV meter.

How may I get the camera to work again?

Thank you for service to the Pentax community.

Be well,
Bob Choderker

Choosing a Wide Angle Lens for foreground photography

Hello, Chuck:

On my Pentax K-r camera, I use a 16mm, f/2.0 lens for APS-C sensor. My problem is that it pushes the foreground, i.e. the one to twenty foot space in front of the lens, too far away. Of course, the rejoinder is to ask, 'Why don't you simply get closer to the subject?' Of course, this is frequently what I do. However, this does not always solve the problem.

Is there another lens available to meet my demand?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Dave. I am interested in the painting by flashlight. Which flashlight filters, if any, have worked for you?

I am applying a 12 megapixel camera; a 24mm equivalent, f/2 lens; tripod; UV filter; red-filter illumination; and remote to solve this problem.

What shall I look for in exposure and shutter speed? Shall a use a skylight instead of a UV filter? Aside from using red illumination, are there any other lighting considerations? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Be well, my photographer friends.

Why does a photo appear darker in raw format than in jpeg as presented by my Windows 10 software? Of course, the f/ stop and shutter setting are the same in both formats; the raw photo has many more pixels as expected.

Pentax K-r: The display mysteriously fades out

Caliscouser, you are correct! My sunglasses ,ie, polarization has caused the effect. There is no disappearance when gazing at the display with the naked eye. I'll have to search for a pair of prescription, non-polarizing sunglasses...

Pentax K-r: The display mysteriously fades out

My K-r has served faithfully and well for nearly eight years. Nonetheless, in the last month, the display display mysteriously fades out, several times a week, when I turn the camera to vertical format, i.e., turn the body so that the long side is perpendicular to the ground.

The battery continues to sit snugly in its space. Does anyone know how to remedy this apparent electrical connection problem?

K-r Autofocus Switch on Body does not work

Hello, Gentlemen;

I've gotten the autofocus to work. I switched the camera control to AUTO and that revived the autofocus. However, I speculate that the contact cleaner, over time and with my repetitive switching, removed the tarnish from the autofocus contact. Switching the camera controls to AUTO was just a coincidence...Thanks so much...

I'm using my 18-55mm Pentax. It is the only autofocus lens that I own. Thank you for getting back to me, Adam.

I'll squirt a microthimble of contact cleaner and work the switch. Hopefully the stuff will restore an unresponsive contact. Will respond to you shortly...

---------- Post added 02-25-19 at 03:58 PM ----------

The contact cleaner did not work. I am not aware of an autofocus switch on the 18-55. This lens worked in auto for years. Maybe too many years.
The persistence of the MF monitor designation, when switched to auto, suggests that the problem is in the camera...

When I switch from manual focus to auto, the auto driver extends from the body as it should. However, the monitor continues to display MF, manual focus. What is the problem?

I have gone into the menu to reset the camera and adjust the settings, all to no avail.

Hello:

I have not had success using my set of 3 Pentax-brand auto extension tubes with my 18-55 Auto lens and Pentax K-r body. Is their use limited to manual lenses that have an aperture ring? Any advice on extension tube usage would be much appreciated.

I have happily shopped at B & H and will continue to do so. Thanks for the great service.

Be well,

Bob

How may I get the lens hood to stay on the Rokinon 16mm f/2 lens that I bought from you? I don't see a detent to prevent it from falling off.

Nonetheless, it is a wonderfully fast instrument.

I thank you for your reasonable price and prompt service

Bob

Hello:

Does the IR lens filter provide the same results as an IR-converted camera? Where can I go to learn about this field?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks for providing a great market for the photographer.

Bob

Camera Strap needed

Is there a brand of strap which is thin and hangs down at least to waist level on a six + footer?

The one supplied with my K-r is too short and wholly inadequate to steady the camera. As do many, I use a strap as photographic tool when lacking a tripod. It must be long and narrow enough to wrap around my back and arms thereby allowing a bit more stabilization in low-light environments. Ironically, the manufacturers understood this during the film era; the long strap supplied with my beloved K-1000 was pivotal in many a challenging shot.

Any advice would be much appreciated. As to slings, rings, strap modules and systems, don't get me started.

As Bryan Peterson says, "Keep shooting."

How can I balance a heavy lens on a tripod head?
Posted By SmilinBob

Hello, Adam:

Is there a tripod-head collar or bracket available for my 25-ounce, SMC Pentax-A 70-210MM f/4? I would use this to balance the lens and my 21-ounce Pentax K-r body. The problem is that, unless I haven't been observant, there doesn't seem to be an area on the zoom that will accept a collar or bracket; I may be compelled to use this lens-body combination on a strong but unstable tripod head.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Be well,

Bob
