O-RC1 water proof remote control

Just a short follow-up on yesterday's post. I bought a replacement battery. Took a flat screwdriver, pushed hard on the weld. Nothing broke :)
I put the replacement battery in place, closed and screwed the remote back in place. I aimed at my camera and fired... Yay!

Not sure it is waterproof anymore, but basically you can change the battery, although it's a pain in the ass.

I should note my remote stopped working again after the first shot. I think it has something worse than a dead battery :(

PS: just a disclaimer/warning, the above post is about opening the O-RC1. I have no idea if it will ever close back when I'll have replaced the battery, so follow at your own risk obviously ;)

Opening an O-RC1 remote?

Hi!

I'm a bit late but I don't feel like leaving this topic unanswered now I did it. Basically the electronic board is glued to the top plastic panel (where the buttons are). You have to pull pretty hard to unglue it. Don't be afraid, there is no screw that hold both parts, just increase the pressure slowly enough to avoid breaking the board with a strong motion.

So once you removed the 4 screws, take a small, flat screwdriver and introduce it gently in the crack (you'll have to fiddle a bit to take the top and bottom apart). Now take a bigger flat screwdriver and introduce it just beside the first one. Turn it 45-90° to take both parts apart. They'll stick. Now put the screwdriver back flat and move it along the perimeter of the remote, turning it 45-90° at regular intervals. If necessary, repeat with a 3rd, bigger screwdriver. At some point you'll hear the glue being torn apart. Pull a bit more... there you are!

Just a notice before you proceed: beware of the diode on the top, you may damage it if you pull to hard on the top part. Also when the gap widens, on the left you have a small black capacitor and a big orange plastic thing that your screwdriver may damage. So your attack should come from the bottom preferentially.

The yellow circle at the bottom is the battery. You need to unscrew two more tiny screws on the board to access it (it is also glued and wielded... cheap electronics!)

Hope it helps!

I bought one a few month ago. Now I believe the battery's dead already . So I tried to change it (basically sending it back for replacement would nearly cost its price, so I thought it'd be better to do it myself).

Unfortunately it's all glued and welded together. Once you remove the 4 screws on the back, you have to pull hard to unglue the circuits from the top plastic part (where the buttons are). Then you have to unscrew two more very little tiny screws to remove the the circuit board from the bottom. There is the battery, on the board... but the contacts are welded (2-points)! Cheap electronics! They basically won't go!

Now my remote is definitely dead I think. :(

So to answer i_trax' question: no, you can't change the battery (it's a CR2025 by the way). But not because it's weather sealed (you could replace the seal pretty easily I think), but because it's cheap electronics.

Thanks a lot folks for your answer!:)

I did that and apparently it disappeared.:D

But now what is left? I mean, there were apparently more than a dozen of pixels, what are they filled with now? Is there a "gap" in my pictures?
I didn't see anything yet, but as my camera is under warranty, should I send it anyway?

K-5 stain?

Hello here!

A few days ago I started noticing this blue dot on my photos:

This is a 100% crop@70mm, F32.

It definitely wasn't there a week ago, and appeared on my K-5 after > 2500 shots. There was some dust I removed with a blower, but this small smurf stayed here.

Can that be one of those famous stains? Should I send it back to pentax?

Thanks,
Calimo

Adapter question

Hi there!

I'm looking for a fast ~35mm lens to mount on my K-5.
I see Voigtländer is selling a 35mm F/1.4 at an affordable price. However it is designed for M-Bajonett Mount. I need an adapter, but I'm a bit lost, is it M39 or M42, or even something else? On Cosina website I see it is even referred as VM mount (I think it is the same lens).

Can you help me sorting that out? I'm fine with manual focus and aperture, but I'd really keep automatic exposure. Does this information apply (I guess so if M = M42, but what happens if it isn't)?

Thanks!
Calimo
