I just traded my K-5 for a K1II myself. Also picked up 4 new lenses per my signature. Super pumped. The 12mm Laowa is a really cool lens. Can't wait to go out shooting. Maybe this weekend.

I have a 2013 non turbo FIAT 500. So far it has been great, but I have heard horror stories about dealer service. I do all my maintenance myself so I haven't been back to the dealer yet. I have also modded the crap out of it to get better handling, and more and smoother power. That included overwriting the engine and transmission control units software. I really like the car's overall size and interior comfort for the front two seats. My daughter rides in the back and she is a small person. Works for her. I may consider trading up to a turbo Abarth at some point, but I am not sure about it. I like the gas mileage and zero oil consumption that I am getting with the non turbo. It is also much simpler from a mechanical standpoint. The resale value sucks so that is another reason to stay with what I have.

Dewman, I hope you are right. I was being facetious about them going 4-12 this upcoming year. But you have to admit we have heard good things about the Raiders since their last Super Bowl appearance and (even without considering Jamarcus) they have underachieved every time. However, though I live in SF, I would rather see the Raiders succeed versus seeing the 49ers succeed even if the Raiders move. Unfortunately both have rich spoiled kids as owners. Not really liking that.

Monochrome and reeftool, I feel your pain. There is something about watching an NFL game that makes me feel like I am wasting valuable time, so I don't do it anymore. That is unless I am at the in-laws over some holiday. Already time wasted. :)

Every year the sportscaster crowd in the SF Bay Area goes nuts in the off season about how great the Raiders are going to be - how they have made all the right moves in the off season - how they are just on the cusp of turning things around dramatically, etc. Every year they suck.

Fewer and fewer people seem to be sporting 49er gear around here. Big mistake to move to Santa Clara. Whole different football crowd that would rather socialize than watch games. I have definitely lost interest in pro football around here.

Not the only one. I heard that Pete Carroll actually called for a suicide squeeze play, but then realized that that is meant for baseball - not football.

BTW, it was second down with 20 seconds on the clock and they had one timeout left. They could have had three plays to get a TD from the one yard line. Also, look at the way Seattle scored their previous TD. Pretty easy pass to the corner of the end zone. Carroll's excuse was that NE had their goal line defense in the game, so he called a pass because he liked the match ups. But he called a pass right in the middle of the field at the goal line. Where is the concentration of a goal line defense? Answer: Right in the middle of the field. Granted Wilson still made the throw and should have known that it wasn't going to be easy. But this was a case of Pete Carroll outsmarting himself and no one else. Very funny IMHO.

This is an expression that I have never understood. Wouldn't it be more logical to say "Innocent unless proven guilty?" The word "until" implies that the subject will eventually be proven guilty. That expression is used ubiquitously. I don't get it.

Someone can close the thread now. I am finished . :)

Depreciation thus far has been about the worst that I have ever seen. Luckily I paid about $2000 less than sticker for mine. MT's cruise 75mph at about 4000rpm's in 5th gear. I wanted the true overdrive. In all honesty the AT on this car acts much more like an MT than one would think. Fuel cut-out on upshifts, rev matching downshifts, gear hold at corners, etc. With the proper transmission tune, you will also get to 60mph quicker with this AT than the MT. I realize that some people have to have MT's. I like the sophistication where some AT's are going though.

Wow, I hope that she is better in 2013.

About a year ago I posted that a 10 year old niece of mine was suffering from severe aplastic anemia and needed a bone marrow transplant to survive. The odds were not in her favor, but she did find a match. The last that I heard her immune system has been completely taken over by the donor's system and she is showing signs of a complete recovery.:)

In my opinion the analogy is not helpful. Somethings cannot be compared. I believe that you are correct that people with problems are the problem, however.

Guns are fairly easy tools to obtain. Guns are also fairly easy tools to use to inflict bodily harm. Guns can also be easy tools to conceal. All of that is obvious. I think some of the people that are responsible for these mass shootings would find other ways to cause damage. However, I also think that there is a convenience factor that most times makes their weapon of choice guns. I think that without the convenience of using a gun, some of these instances wouldn't happen.

Everything in our world has reached, or will reach, a point of no return. There is global warming that in all likelihood cannot be reversed. There is the proliferation of nuclear warheads, and nuclear waste that could end the world in the blink of an eye. And there is the proliferation of guns. Some people embrace them, some people ignore them. I think that when things like this happen more people actually embrace them. As someone has said, "Why bring a knife to a gun fight?"

Obviously if you look at the electoral map you can see that the difference in the last presidential election was much more than 2%. Romney can spout off about "gifts" to Mexican and Black Americans all he wants, but it doesn't address the issue that, by and large, the most populated counties voted Democrat. I honestly don't think that the results would have been much different if voter turn-out was higher. So rather than saying that only 31% of eligible voters determined the election, one might say that people in densely and diversely populated areas determined the election results. Nothing really new, but something that Republicans are struggling with more so than Democrats. Why is that?

Whirlpool is in the top two as far as manufacturing quantity of home appliances (this type, anyway) in the world. There are quite a few brands that fall under the Whirlpool umbrella as being the parent company. Most of the Whirlpool brands are shiite. (As an example - the Ikea brand.) However, a brand such as Kenmore can get higher marks for items such as washers and dishwashers. Are they as good as Bosch or Miele in those categories? Probably not. But a brand such as Kenmore is loads less expensive than Bosch or Miele.

I would contact eBay by phone. You have to weed through the online customer support options, but you can contact them by phone. The one time that I did speak with someone at eBay they were coherent. I was surprised.

EDIT: jeztastic convinced me otherwise. A front focusing camera that REALLY front focuses.

Another aperture/bokeh lens question

Not sure if you got this answered. The construction of the lens is such that when wide at 55mm the lens opening is widest at f4.0. When zoomed at 300mm the aperture will only open to what is computed to be f5.8 at its widest. It is a function of an economical design governed by physical limitations. You cannot override these constraints with the DA 55-300 lens design. Focal length and aperture have a linear relationship with this design. One of the resident mathematicians can go into detail because I cannot.

I don't disagree with most of what you wrote, but I don't think that M mode on Pentax dSLR's or MILC's is an after thought. After all they gave us the green button.

I understand the want to manually set a camera. The only automated part of M mode is the metering. It's an aid, but you can very easily ignore what the metering suggests and get creative, (or screw up the shot.)
