I tried uploading to shutterstock and had more success. They need 7 of 10 to be accepted and I got 3 so thats a start compared to Fotolia.
@Jim
I wish I could of got closer but the Sigma lens was the closest it could focus, Now got a Tamron 90mm 1:1 and its much better for this sort of thing. :D

Thanks for the all the advice :) Never heard of focus magic, might have to try that, I would never notice the 2 pixels with just my eye :p
Yeah they seem to have a lot of images submitted but I have just opened a Shutterstock account so will see how I get on there.

I have done some research and it seems Fotolia reject photos accepted by other agencies etc. So I may give another agency a try :)

Thanks for the advice. I still consider myself a newbie and framing is probably one of the things I still need to improve upon :)
Yeah the second one is sharper but is it me or does it look a bit off centre if you know what I mean?

Hello Everyone :)
I tried putting this photo on Fotolia for sale but it got rejected for technical reasons which are listed below.
"The image contains one or more technical problems:
• Blurry or out of focus
• Over/Under exposure
• Framing problem
• Over or under saturated colors
• Problems with contrast
• Noise or Pixelation
• Quality of routing
• Interpolation problem
"
I thought and others that it is a good photo, I was very pleased when I managed to get it because this Dragon fly just flew past my face and landed right in front of me :D
One of those rare moments.
I would like some honest opinions on it and any tips for improving it :)
The second photo (one that has the wings in detail) I have not tried to sell but some people prefer it even though I don't, what do you think?
Thank you
Chris

Well I would like to send some of my pictures into the Countryfile Photographic Competition. They are mostly insects and flowers, tried to capture them flying etc. I used a Pentax Kr with a Sigma 17-70mm 2.8-4.5 for most of the pictures and the others the Pentax Kit lens.

The competition is only an amateur one and I have to send in 4 photographs but I would like some opinions on which would be the better ones to send in. They would be in the class flowers or insects and spiders.
PS: Ignore the watermark, flickr added it :p
Thanks in advance!

That is a very nice picture, did you use flash? There is a tiny bit of reflection on the wasp which makes it very clear!

yep, I think I went through many many rubbish or missed shots, some were mistakenly captured with ISO 100 and were very but dark but i recovered them. I think that proved to me some of the reasons to use RAW.
@Caddis I can imagine that would be easier as you can stand back without scaring the insect before you have taken a shot.
Did you take that with a tripod because I would have thought it could be unsteady at that tele?
The bee is in very good detail (:, what shutter speed did you use to freeze that wing?

So do you adjust the manual focus as the camera is shooting a burst?

Hello all,
I have read several forums and discussions on the internet about the topic. However most people recommend:
Flash (1 above the sun light)
1/250 Exposure
f11 ish
ISO 100
I seem to be the only one who has spent many days not using flash but getting surprisingly ok shots!
I tend to set the exposure to 1/6000 and ISO Auto upto a maximum of 1600, I set the shooting mode to high speed. I hold the shutter button down and continuously shoot hoping they will fly off the flower etc.
I was wondering how other people seem to capture the insects in flight. My favorite is the bee because they will land and then fly off quickly so you can get a good shot!
The following are some examples:
They are taken with the kit lens 18-55mm without post processing except a few, some are also cropped.
Hope to hear of some new and interesting techniques!

Nope didn't use anything like that. The following was performed in Lightroom:
Enable Lens Profile: Adobe's Default for my lens
Point Curve: Strong Contrast
Exposure: +0.23 0.23
Exposure: -0.55 -0.32
Fill Light: +30 30
Contrast: +30 55
Contrast: -15 40
Exposure: +0.18 -0.14
As you can see i was playing with the settings a little bit trying to get the histogram looking better etc
