onesikej8 - straight and to the point - thanks.
RioRico - Unfortunately mine does not have any caps so not sure if version one or two. YES, i will have a piss of a time keeping that lens scratch free. It is Spiratone branded and screw mount and came with a bayonet adapter. Also has dial for 3 f stops f8 f11 f16. I read the article a while back and honestly - reading it, and researching the lens further, is what led me to buy it. Decisions, decisions.
thank you both.

Am I comparing apples to apples here?
I got a week ago the Spiratone and really have not had a chance to use it. I have a chance to acquire the Sigma. Which one is better? I suppose the Sigma because of the 2.8 vs 8 f stop. But how much am I giving up on the wide side? These lenses would only be used on a Pentax K-r.
A quick shot using the the Spiratone impressed me as I caught my daughter in the shot and she was almost standing next to me. Probably these lenses will be used for landscape shots and indoors - large family gatherings (huge family small rooms). I did read the reviews on each and the Sigma has a better rating.
As a logical approach - should i just try out what I already own and if it doesn't work out then look for something else in the future. I only have $100 and I do need a flash. But the thought of NOT buying a lens kills me inside.
I probably overpaid a bit on the Spiratone at $95 (no caps but included K adapter) but it is such a unique lens and really wanted to give it a try. Would having a better flash compensate for the f8 indoors?
sorry for the loaded question. Thank you all.

Hello everyone. The image below is of a Vivitar Series 1 100-400 4.5-6.7 Auto Zoom mount. Is that for a Minolta? Note the zoom drive shaft hole near the 6 o'clock position. The lock pin hole seems to be near the 10 o'clock and the 'red' docking guide is over by the 1 o'clock. I can't seem to match my AF Pentax lenses to those features. Thanks.

Hello everyone.
Elicar Automatic 1:3.5 f=135mm
Anyone know anything on this Elicar lens. I am fully aware of the famous 90mm 2.8 but cant find anything on this 135mm 3.5 model. In searching the lens review archives I find on elabeled Tokyo Togaku(Topcor) 135mm f3.5 which looks awefully close in the style of the case. Are these the same? Internet search also did not reveal anything on this Elicar. Thank you all for any feedback.

I am also in the process of getting my first camera bag. I do like the Kata 3n1 or the Dolica k30. they both seem like amazing bags with all the options and the latter being half price. My on;y concern is the size of the bags. They seem huge for the weekend trek. they seem appropriate for the long vacation. I am also looking at the rucksack style as they seem to be less obvious at being a camera bag. the Kata 467i and this model here seems to provide a nice National Geographic look and feel. Also inexpensive as it is made in China :(

the yellow n black looks nice. I own the white k-r and love it. Someone mentioned the 'bumblebee' look of the camera: I wish there would be more options of lenses, lens hoods, filters, lens caps, hand grips, etc. matching the variery of colors the Pentax comes in. I understand there might be an increase in prduction but I would be willing to pay the extra for style as long as performance is not compromised and the product is the same as the black versions.

I own the white k-r, love the camera all around. This might sound a bit ridiculuos but I would like some of the lenses to also match the available colors. I understand this might add to the cost of manufacturing but I think I would be willing to pay the difference. Afterall, didn't some of us paid extra to get that rare camera color? I would have thought by now some of the third party manufacturers of lens hoods, caps, straps, filters, and flashes would have produced some of these. Again, understanding the priority is how well any one of these items performs is key and color coordination is very low on the list.

Canada Rockies - thanks for your response and link to samples of the Pentax products you use.
I have read on the forum review lens section and had an eye on the Tamron 1.4 AF which seems to have gotten some good reviews.
Rio - thanks for your feedback. I also have an eye on a 500mm and would like to put my money on at least the f6.3 - wont commit to the f8.0.
On another thought - I have a Meade telescope and could spend a few dollars for the adapter though not sure what magnification I get out of it. Haven't done the proper research for a Meade AT-60.
Thanks again for your responses.

Hello everyone,
I assume if one is to have a teleconverter then the best option is an AF between the lens and body - however there is a clear difference in cost for this approach.
So, which is better on the remaining optio, having a it between the body n lens or after the lens? Does one create a greater loss of quality than the other? As in between the lens and body expect to loose 1 stop but after the lens expect to loose over 2.
I quess there is better flexibility in having it after the lens and not between since it can simply be added or removed as needed.
I am basically looking to add a TC to a a Tamron 28-300 (older model).
Thank you all.

I am new to photography and just purchased my first dslr. This forum helped in choosing my K-R. Jut came back from a weekend getaway and learned the hard way about selecting a high ISO setting. Destroyed about half the pitures I took. Lesson learened.
My question is directed at the focus points that show int he viewfinder/lcd display. I have selected the 11 points setting yet I only recall seeing only one red dot throughout my experience with the camera. Am I missing something? Would I have some other setting preventing it from displaying the multiple red dots indicating multiple focosed subjects? thanks for your responses.
