I wasn't sure why there were so many nails in the main post of the cross. I assumed it was just an exaggerated, stylistic representation of a crucifixion. It was in a sculpture garden full of very scrappy, disjointed pieces made from various bits of detritus by the Sigurjón Ólafsson museum just outside of Reykjavik.

Sigh... this always happens, anyone know a good way to link to photos from Google Photos? I can't be bothered uploading them all to my decrepit 500px account.

Edit: How about now? I shared the album on Google Photos.

Trip to Iceland in September turned out to be rather damp... But it was still excellent, and got some great shots from it. Really wanted to try and avoid the usual shots of Gulfoss and Thingvellir.

There's a load of examples there of shooting indoor in low light with f/2.8 nearly all the time on the 50-135 which is a pain to focus with, very slow. It's still quite serviceable. Not great but not a deal breaker. Certainly wouldn't want to shoot professionally with it though, at least not for this situation. Other than low light sports shooting it's a great lens, but low light action is really demanding on any camera.

Edit: Some are on the 16-50 and 50/1.8 too. A lot are out of focus but in there because they're the best of a bad bunch, it's not the best example but it does highlight the shortfall of this particular camera/lens combination. This is using continuous 9-point pattern AF with medium tracking.

If you google separately for nik (don't us that link just in case, no offence) then yeah I can confirm that Google has now made Nik free apparently. They're refunding anyone who has bought it.

I've had this problem in the past actually. I'm linking it to Google Photos, where I upload my shots. For some reason it doesn't show for some people. I'll re-uplaod it on 500px and try re-linking.

Also thanks CreationBear! Yeah I have no idea why it was shining the way it was, I think the wet stone was just catching the light in just the right way. Leading wandering Victorian souls ever upwards...

EDIT: Changed it to 500px now, hopefully everyone can see it.

Traipsed up to old Ashton Memorial on Thursday, it's such an amazing building. Sadly the weather wasn't quite so fantastic, but the deathly autumn landscape made for a wonderfully gothic setting on a dark, misty day...

Tried making it dark and gothic in post-processing but didn't want to over-egg the structure itself, otherwise it just looked weird. And perhaps a slightly lower angle would have been better, but I wanted the tree branches to fill out the white space formed by the featureless sky, and I figured it sort of veiled the top of the memorial which I kinda like.

16-50mm, 50-135mm, 60-250mm dilemma

I can attest to the capability of the 16-50 in terms of delivering beautiful images but the autofocus on both the 50-135 and the 16-50 isn't the best. That's not to say it's bad, I've had acceptable performances shooting indoor sports in crappy light at close range, by all accounts a rigorous test of AF. But it definitely has plenty of room for improvement.

Both are stunning lenses when they do lock focus properly though.

Re-uploaded them to 500px instead of Google+, let's see if that works. But it's weird that they seem to fail on Google+... Something to do with the way it generates unique links to the pictures for security?

Thanks for the comments if you can see them though :D

Pretty sure this is the one. It says it's out of stock though so I wouldn't expect to actually get one as it's clearly a pricing error.

GR - can i reverse functions of the front and rear dials ?

You can set which you'd prefer to be Av & Tv in Key Custom Options > M/TAv Mode Dial Settings but yeah I don't think the rear dial is intended to be used like a wheel, hence why it's not available for Av/Tv selection in Av or Tv mode. It's a shame but I can't say I've noticed it until now.

I think if nothing else it should be cool to see what software engineers can make the Axiom do, but photography wise I can't help but feel it's such a convoluted way of making a camera. But hey, at least people have the option now, if that's what floats your boat.

This looks awesome, perhaps if you had a spare hot shoe cover lying around you could glue the rectangle to that? So you don't have the body of the clip obscuring the screen.

What about the Ricoh GR with the GW3 adapter? It'd 'only' be a ~14mm but you'd have autofocus and superb IQ in a very compact package.

I always wondered whether you could do something this with a second piece closer to the eye with a frame drawn on it. And then calibrate them so that when you align both frames in your view, it corresponds to the angle of view of the lens you're using. Perhaps even have different frame lines for different focal lengths on a zoom?

In any case this is a really nifty low-tech viewfinder, cool idea!

Could you remove the elements and soak them in solvent or something like that? I assume that'd be the easiest way to affect the coating without altering the glass itself. Might need some pretty strong stuff though, not sure what coatings are made from or how they adhere to the base material.

Taken with the 16-50. It's a bit out of focus but ah well...

I'll add that I was attempting to catch some of the meteor shower here but as luck would have it they came down everywhere apart from in my frame.
