Is the lens an f2.2 Takumar? That was the lens that came on and went with the Asahi Pentax S, heaven knows where. One of my buddies in college had a Leica M3 with the legendary 50mm f2 Summicron. When we mixed slides taken by him and by me, a third party could not tell which camera & lens had been used. We asked camera store dealer who praised Leica above all other cameras & lenses to look at the slides projected in a dark room and tell us which lens, f2 Summicron or f2.2 Takumar, had been used for each image. He gave several excuses but basically refused to try. Which comes around to me saying the f2.2 is an excellent lens by any standard.

That crown really belongs to the much maligned M5. I have a 3 lug M5. What an amazing camera it is.

Folks - this thread has served it's purpose, with a range of views from those who've had dealings with Eric. I'm closing it now, as I don't believe there's anything more to be gained... |

Much like Acros, RR 80s has very fine grain and great tonality. How they differ is with spectral reponse. Acros is billed as being ortho-panchromatic, meaning it has extended blue sensitivity and is stunted at the red end. RR 80s is somewhat opposite and has been labeled as super-panchromatic with somewhat reduced blue sensitivity and red sensitivity into the near infrared. With an IR filter mounted, RR 80s can be used for IR photography. That far red sensitivity can result in strange contrast with grass and foliage in full sun.
Example showing how reds and skin tones render:

RR 80s uses a 100μ polyester base and dries quite flat. Below is a link to white paper that was written shortly after RR 80s came to market: http://www.digitaltruth.com/products/rollei_tech/rollei_retro80s.pdf
