Cheap, long-range telephoto lenses any good (how about prime ones)?

I have the Opteka 500MM Mirror lens and get similar results

I have a Phoenix 100-400mm AF zoom, with push pull type of zooming.. but its a great long range lens on both my K100D and K10D.. relatively inexpensive also. I paid $225 for mine new on some website.

I have read that one too.. But I have found that the Dust removal system works.

My question is.. are you stating this to bash Pentax or to offer sound information

I shot a few candid shots yesterday.. but I felt that the photos I submitted were the best. During the week I will show the candids at Mt Rushmore and at the local park. I just felt they were not the ones to go into the gallery.

A Day in the Park

I took some time and hooked up my Phoenix 100-400MM F4.5-F6.7 el cheappo to see what kind of shots I could get.. The lens is ok.. if your careful.

The weather is warmer, the people are enjoying the park more and the ducks and geese are not eating like in winter. But it was fun to watch the people and get some shots All in all.. a good day. Canyon Lake Park is unique as far as city parks go.. lots to see and do and at the base of the Black Hills

Yes it was Jack Simpson who received a ban.

But I made a complaint about another poster in their forums that I know was just putting in a "Pentax Sucks" comment and caused quite a stir... I was told that that poster was "not controversal enough" to receive a ban.

I still go there and read alot.. but the forums are bad... very bad to be called disccusion forums.

Slick

I just noticed this post.. you put a smile on my face by showing UP in your photo. My father worked for 30 years with them as a machinist.

The photo is great, the 2nd photo shows two C44-9W's working on that bridge. Your lucky to have such a vista to catch rail action:)

Just a couple of shots with a Quantaray 75-300 lens around my apartment complex. This place has more wildlife than I originally noticed. The K10D is great to get quick shots.

The only problem I see with the lens is its somewhat slow to focus at times and the EXT information dose not come up in photoshop. Otherwise... Not bad for a $129 special I found.

Rails in the Morning Sun

Between work, and some personal problems.. I am not getting to shoot as much as I really want. But this morning.. I took a walk from my apartment along the rails of the Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Railway outside of Rapid City.

The original line was the Chicago Northwestern Railway. The DM&E runs two or three trains a day through these tracks that have heavy loads of minerals etc. I was fascinated with the wear and tear on these rails. Hence my one picture to post for the day.

I am sorry.. but thats incorrect.

The correct designation is P51D Mustang. The P47 was the Thunderbolt and what you have there is a Mustang. Probably the finest of all American designed fighter planes in WWII.

Nice Shots though!

I fail to understand how Pentax fans are saying that the K10D is due for replacement as it was released last November.

Life cycle of electronic items is about 6 months to 1 year. Not in four-five months. But there were people saying that a replacement for the K10D was due two months after release... amazing

photoshop online for free....

I use Photoshop CS2 at work and Photoshop CS2/CS3 at home almost every day as my job is Graphics Design.

Yes, they are all legal copies. I know its large, and has a large learning curve. But to me its worth every penny.

I love the comments that its too big and not good for photo manipulation. But all the photographers in my office also use CS2 also and refuse to use the supplied Elements v4.0.

You use what works for you.. but after reading that article.. I suspect the Online version is going to be two things.. Slow... and stripped. Anyone here use on-line Office client before.. imagine that with a 240 DPI image out a K10D:)

Amazing.. how a year can change things.

the K10D was just released a mere months ago.. and already the users are speculating a replacement. Or even another camera.

I am content with my K10D and K100D.. and get out the popcorn about all the speculating going on lately.:) :) :) :)

Ellsworth AFB outside of Rapid City, South Dakota, 7:30 in the morning, the temperature was -10F but I enjoyed the morning sunrise while waiting for a event to happen, I took out my K10D and took a few shots. Worked like a champ despite the cold and the battery never went down.

I like this camera, All photos were with a Tamron 20-200mm lens:)
