Sony A55 is atleast as good as the D5100 (also beats it in areas like burst speed etc). They are also showing signs of quick expansion in the next few months in India.
But even non-VR lenses of Sony cost as much (~15% less ) as Nikon VR lenses. So for now stuck with D5100 :). Guess it will be goodbye to pentax forums as well.. :o

Nope, new to DSLRs and my love for the Pentax was based on the reviews and image quality i saw online (not to mention the 7fps burst mode).
Zeroed in on the D5100 from Nikon because the 3100 I compared initially failed bad against the K-r. And Sony A55 etc costs a fortune more in terms of body and lenses.

I am in chennai, planning on getting a K-r.
Citi cameras, Konica dont deal with Pentax, and Shetala told there is not enough service network and warranty - they suggest Nikon or Canon.
Is it worth the hassle to buy and maintain/service a camera, which does not have a support network in India?

My first post. I have choosen (finalized to buy) a Pentax K-R over a Nikon D3100 as well, and not basing my decision on this forum alone.
Problem is I live in India. Couple of retailers I checked with suggest me not to go Pentax as it lacks a great support/service network in my country. Also if I need to get additional lenses - should be from the US or Singapore.
Resellers on Ebay.in dont provide much options on kit lenses (18-55 only). Further they ship from the US which adds a hefty amount making it unviable against a D3100.
How much service does a K-r need for a regular/moderate usage? Is it advisable to buy KR on Grey market w/o proper papers?
