Negative Lab Pro has a Cyber Monday coupon for $10 off.
It's ANALOGMONDAY

Has anyone done a pixel shifted digital image and compared it to a scanned image?
If so, which did you like better (and which scanner did you use)?

I live in Kent and got this: Eclipse & jet - PentaxForums.com
It cleared up as the moon was rising and surprised me as I thought we would miss another one.

All these years living by an airport finally paid off.
It was cloudy here all day and I grumbled about living in the Pacific Northwest and missing another celestial event.
When lo and behold, the clouds break and the moon is shining!
I had to rush inside and cobble together gear to cover the eclipse.
The camera was set up for a remote 3 second delay and this is the only one of 3 jet pictures that turned out since I had to guess when it would be in the frame.

You can even see the engine from the flash of the strobe.

Saw this sunset from North of Enumclaw after I had been day hiking up at Mount Rainier.
It was one of those rare times that you can hardly believe what you are seeing.
This is the central part of the sunset with more light and streamers on both sides of this image.
This is one of 2 times in my life that I saw an amazing sight- the other was without a camera but it's still vivid in my mind.

Been watching for a price drop on the 28-105 for over a year now with no success. Even though we pay sales tax it's the best price I've seen in a long time. Thanks for the tip!

With B&H, if there is an issue with the lens then they issue a return and you don't pay for shipping.
Adorama makes you pay shipping for a defective lens?
I had an order with them but I was notified that it was out of stock. If it costs $35 every time to return a defective lens then I will try it from B&H instead.

I have my K3-II set to use the AF button on the back.
I press and release it quickly about a dozen times - never waiting for it to actually try to focus.
Between 1-2 dozen presses it "wakes" up and works.
I have to do this every time I use the lens (used rarely and sits on the shelf a lot).

So, how do ~you~ protect your D-LI90's ?

A little piece of gaffers tape over the end on mine.
This is also how they want them protected when flying.

>>I've switched to using the Kingston MLWG2

Alas, after my trip to Iceland and trying to transfer 32GB of data through the Kingston I cannot recommend it.
Data transfer speed really bogged down on that many files and that much data. It was going to take hours to back up 1 card.
My previous tests with smaller amounts of data led me to believe that it would work for more files but it doesn't.
I've moved on to a small Dell laptop (14z I7) with Win10 on a SSD and a USB3 port that performs admirably.

I spent 9 days in Iceland and used the MindShift backpack to carry all my gear.
No problems carrying it on the plane.
I took out the waist belt and put it under the seat in front of me so I could take it out during the flight to take pictures.
I was able to fit in the: K3ii with 16-85, 1.4x converter,DA 55-300, DA 12-24, DFA 100mm macro, 15mm and a Samyang 8mm. Tight squeeze but it works with APS-C!
I stacked 6 lenses together with a OP/Tech double lens mount cap to save space.

Lenses for Iceland trip

I was just there for 9 days in late April.
Planned for rain and wind and got a sun tan instead!
We used this map for planning the trip: Map of Iceland for photographers, hikers and tourists
I used the MindShift backpack to carry all my gear: MindShift Gear rotation180° Professional Backpack Deluxe 210
I highly recommend this to hold your gear.
I was able to fit in the waist belt: K3ii with 16-85, 1.4x converter, DA 55-300, DA 12-24, DFA 100mm macro, 15mm and a Samyang 8mm. Tight squeze but it works with APS-C!
I stacked 6 lenses together with a double lens mount cap to save space: OP/TECH USA Double Lens Mount Cap for Pentax Lenses 1101251 B&H
Also brought a tripod, Nikon SB-30 and monocular.
And bring a hat that ties under your chin!
The K-3ii has GPS built in so bring an O-GPS1 if you bring your K-3.
Lens usage: 16-85 was lens used most often followed by the 55-300 (sometimes with the 1.4). Used the 8mm once and the 12-24 a few times. Never used the 15 or the 100.
I decided that if I needed a wider angle I would just use the 16-85 and take several pictures to stitch later.
Now when I travel I only bring my 16-85, 55-300, 1.4x. flash and filters.
Here's a few days worth of images - haven't processed them all yet: Iceland 2016
Have a great trip and watch out for sheep! :)

You would need to look up your portable drive specs, but let's assume it uses 500mA to run. With a full charge the Kingston is rated at 4640mAh. Your hard drive would run roughly for 9 hours before you would need to charge the Kingston. They can support larger drives but it would likely require a powered USB hub.
Copying to multiple devices is my theft/destruction protection. With multiple memory cards kept in the camera bag and each SSD containing all the backed up pictures in other carry on gear carried by myself and my spouse, I believe I am covered for most normal theft/disaster scenarios.

I used to bring a laptop along to back up all my images.
I rotated cards and would not use it again unless I ran out of memory cards.
Problem is the laptop was large, heavy, and a single point of failure.

I've switched to using the Kingston MLWG2 (http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Companion-Storage-Charger-MLWG2/dp/B00KU2E9IW).

At the end of a shoot I place the SD in the Kingston and hook a 256GB external SSD to the USB slot.
I use the Kingston app (IOS and Android) to transfer files from the memory card to the SSD.
I put in another SSD and repeat the process.
I now have my original images on the SD card and backed up to two Solid State Disks.
The memory card gets rotated out and will only be used again if I run out of memory cards; but my data is backed up on 2 separate disks kept in 2 different locations.
I use SSD instead of spinning platters because fewer moving parts means less chance of disk damage.

The MLWG2 also acts as a battery charger and wireless device.

With the Kingston app or ES File Explorer I play movies off of a SD card or disk for up to 4 people, or I can review my images.

Look into a Bowens Illumitran slide copier.
I picked one up and am finding it much easier to use and does as good as a job as my dedicated slide scanner.
I'ts also easy to vary the light in case you want to make the image brighter or darker.
