thanks folks...yes...I did not do the meter tests for precisely those reasons.

I will upload a picture of my lens....that should be confimation enough.

Glad to know that the aperture is indeed "smallish" for others as well.

This could sound silly, but I want to dispel any doubts in my head.

Could someone post an image of the lens with its aperture at 4.5? For some reason I feel that wide open in my copy of the lens isn't really wide open (the aperture seems too small to me) and I just want to clarify that.

Sorry for the odd request. But I would appreciate your help.

I'll upload an image of what the wide open aperture on my lens looks like tonight.

Thanks.

Pentax 645N: metering with manual lenses

aristophanes...thanks.

I am moving to the 645N.

I want to candid portraiture and that is a reason why metering is important for me.

In the Nikon DSLRs, when when you mount lenses whose aperture you can manually adjust, unless you have electrical contacts, the camera will not meter.....stupid really.

How is the Mamiya? Do you have the above problem with that?

Pentax 645N: metering with manual lenses

Hello,

I am making the switch from Nikon DX to medium format with the Pentax 645N.

I wonder if the metering will still work if I mount a lens without the CPU contacts?

I know that for low end Nikon DSLRs, mounting a non CPU lenses (without electrical contacts) disables the exposure meters.

Thanks.

Arnie,

Thanks! I hope so, but my foray into the Pentax world is getting painfully delayed thanks to my inability to acquire the 645N at a reasonable cost!:(

Hello,

I am Avi, originally from India, but currently in graduate school in Atlanta, GA.

I am primarily a DX shooter with a Nikon D300, but after recently graduating to Large Format (Speed Graphic), I have fallen in love with film, and am looking to make the foray into Medium Format.

I am in this forum, because I am sure that I want to start MF with a Pentax 645N.

Hope to interact with all of you for a long time to come!

Avi
