Poll: Do you carry a pocket camera? Best of Pentax Forums April 17 Poll

Digital-centric voting options only?
Perhaps you should add OTHER as a choice.

I usually carry a pocket 35mm film camera; I own a bunch,
e.g. Minox 35ML, Olympus XA series, Ricoh FF-1 etc.

Thanks for the photos.

Does anyone have photos of operating Budd RDCs?

Steam does nothing for me. I prefer diesels, especially those first-generation units.

Helical grease is normally used as it is required for proper damping of focus action.
It comes in various grades (thicknesses).

A good source for this and other camera-specific repair supplies is Micro-Tools:
https://www.micro-tools.com/

I once had a lens with objectionably loose focus; I cleaned out the old stuff
and replaced it with a stiffer grease.

Accessories for the new Pentax half-frame camera... what should they sell?

Given the market demographic this thing is aimed at, the accessory I suggest is a selfie stick.

Tear-Stained Letter - Richard Thompson, 1983

You Tube

Richard's first major release after Shoot Out The Lights with ex-wife Linda.

I found a brand new sealed copy of the Hand of Kindness LP
at a good price on Discogs and ordered it for my daughter.

Sending the camera body to Eric is definitely a great way to get off on the right foot.

If lens glass is clean, aperture ring operates positively, diaphragm snaps open
quickly and focus ring is smooth and well-damped they likely don't need service.

Early streamlined diesel cab units are my favorites.
Today there are few left still running, mostly operated by railroad museums.
If anyone has photos of these please post them.

MZ-5 failing or not?

Every Pentax MZ/ZX camera I have ever used has suffered from this failure.

In another thread we saw photos of the all-plastic internal construction of these cameras.
IMO anyone contemplating repair of one should take a look at those first.

Thinking about getting an Internet radio

With built-in stereo speakers the Sangean WFR-32 Internet radio sounds great.

https://radiojayallen.com/sangean-wfr-32-internet-table-radio/

Sangean product support is very good, but I won't make a prediction about their aggregator.
The more compact CCrane WIFi3 uses Skytune, also used by several other manufacturers.

https://radiojayallen.com/cc-wifi-3-internet-radio/

Even this compact AC-powered tabletop unit sounds surprisingly good with a pair of small stereo speakers attached.

Thinking about getting an Internet radio

I prefer purpose-built appliances, so I have been using Internet radios for several years.
A great advantage of an Internet radio is that it doesn't tie up your phone or computer.

The initial reason I purchased one was to receive a nearby FM station with problematic reception;
i.e. I could listen only in my car. Now I can listen to their stream at home with no reception problems.

Many early units used the Reciva aggregator for Internet radio stations.
Unfortunately Qualcomm shut this service down in 2021.
This left many brands including your older Grace unit inoperable.

I currently own several different models.
I have a CCrane WFi3 in my bedroom and a Sangean WFR-32 in my living room.

Like any electronic device there is a learning curve.
Fortunately even a dummy like me was able to master the interface.
Soon I was listening to stations from around the world, and soon you will be too!

A comparison of M series 50s plus the K 50mm 1.2

Negatives and slides look great with any of the Pentax 50mm lenses,
including the budget SMC (K) or -M 50/2 lenses, or the XR Rikenon 50/2.

Fortunately film cameras don't do histograms.
Better is the enemy of good.

Kembleford seems unaffected by the postwar British economy as well.
I doubt anyone watches these programs expecting historical accuracy.

In buying a 50+ year old Pentax camera I always factor in the cost of service.
Fortunately Eric Hendrickson is still working and his rates are quite reasonable.

I recently sent some expired 35mm film to another forum member.

I replaced the Kodak Ektachrome E100 with fresh new stock,
which I hope to use this autumn.

2 rolls Kodak Ultramax 135-24
2 rolls Kodak Tri-X Pan 135-24

$44 shipped from Freestyle

These films are for my daughter, hopefully to use on our upcoming short vacation trip.
She hasn't yet tried out her new Pentax MX, serviced last year by Eric Hendrickson.

I have nice looking Pentax SV and H3 bodies also in need of service.
I seldom use my screwmount cameras but I do plan to send them
to Eric Hendrickson, maybe after I get my tax refund.

As a beginner I was in the darkroom frequently, several times per week.
After my first couple of batches of D-76 were used up I switched to Microdol-X.
Freestyle sells a clone of it in its LegacyPro line.

When I became just an occasional darkroom worker I tired of throwing away never-used but oxidized (spoiled)
developer stock solution and switched to syrup developers for their long shelf-life and convenience.

Today I use only a Rodinal clone and HC-110. The look of HC-110 is similar to D-76.
Not certain about the latest (2023) version though as I haven't tried it yet.

My 1979 U.S.-built VW Rabbit used bolts to attach the steel wheels.

Unlike many other parts of that car those never gave me any problem.

Poll: How much would you pay (USD) for the new Pentax half-frame film camera?

Part of the appeal of the Pentax is that it will be the first new film camera in years.
However this model might beat the Pentax to the market:

Mint's Long-Awaited Film Camera is an Autofocus-Equipped Rollei 35 | PetaPixel

I'm not sure if/when the MiNT 35mm model will be introduced and at what price, but I prefer its feature set to the Pentax.
