YN560III not working? (new to flash photography, newbie questions included)

Good.

I have tried setting everything up as it should, but it does not work. I have my camera in manual flash mode, but when I press the camera shutter button and the two tranceivers should light up (showing that they have contact) with the right light nothing happens. Both of them are set on channel one, and both of them have the green power light on.

Maybe I just got a defective pair?

I don't need to plug the RF603 into my camera with that cord, right? Because if that is the case the problem here is that it does not work with the K-r as it does not have a port for that...

Hi again,

My remote triggers have now arrived, and I have no idea what to do with them... I put one on my camera and it is turned on and working (green light on), and I have both the trigger and the camera set to channel one. What should I do more in order to make it work? Now nothing happens when I try it.

Thanks in advance.

Haha nope, it would bug me forever if I wouldn't find out... I need some sleep tonight, mind you!

They are actually old wooden logs. I'm not sure what their function are (or were), but these lines were distributed with about 20 meters of spacing between them on the entire beach! :)

Hello!

I have been interested in photography for a couple of years now, and I consider myself a well-seasoned amateur. I know plenty about technique and I can also tell what makes one picture better than another - except when it comes to my own... I have a very hard time assessing my own work, and I feel like it is possibly not up to par with my expectations.

And this is why I am here now! I am hoping you guys could help me out evaluating this picture. It is one of the pictures I feel has the most potential out of the bunch I took during my holiday this summer.

What I am looking for is mostly opinions on how the composition could be improved. I realize the weather could have been better (it always can... ;)), but aside from that I'm not sure what the image is missing.By the way, the reason as to why I decided to wander off from the trusty rule of thirds was because the sky and the ocean left to what's included here was very bland, and the negative space was too much for my liking. I'm not sure if I actually would have panned more to the left, even if the sky was more exciting over there, to be perfectly honest. I would love to hear your opinions on this specifically as well!

So, finally to the image:

Thanks in advance fellow Pentaxians!

(For those of you wondering, the picture was taken on the northern coast of Poland, outside Kolobrrzeg! :))

Edit: Forgot to write about the equipment: This was taken with the Pentax K-r and a Samsung 12-24 F4 lens (it's the pentax lens only rebranded), and of course a tripod!

I will piggyback onto this thread;

I just bought a YN560II and want to be able to use it off camera without having to trigger the built in flash on my camera. Will the RF603N allow me to do this? I am completely new to flash photography as you can see... ;)

Thank you for clearing that up!

Does this mean that I cannot light a picture purely through the speedlite? I have been wanting to do some dramatic portrait shots with one light from the side, but since I also have to use the built in flash that will not be possible. Is that right?

If that is the case, should I buy some sort of extra gadget that allows me to use only the speedlight (I've seen some sort of senders that you can put on your hot shoe)?

Thanks again!

Hello,

I just received my YN560III flash, and I have been playing around with it trying to learn all the functions. I have a Pentax K-r camera, and so far there have been some issues that I can't seem to resolve or find anything about on the internet.

I can use the flash on my hot shoe without any problems (I have the flash in manual mode), but when I want to use it off-camera I can't seem to get it to work consistently. I run it in S1 mode, but I have tried S2 as well (someone could clear up the difference between those and I'd be happy). The flash fires, but apparently at the wrong time as it doesn't make any difference at all if I use it or not - even if I have it on full power at f/4 the photo becomes dark (I run the built in flash as a controller). Sometimes it works though, but most of the time it does not. I don't know what I am doing wrong, so I would be very glad if anyone could explain why this issue exists and what I should do to make it work properly.

Thanks in advance! :)

Why didn't I just buy the stupid lens?!

I have an elicar 90mm mint condition. :)
Looks like new. The only thing that's bad about it is that there was a ring flash permanently mounted to it, and it required a huuuuuuge box to be mounted under the camera, almost as big as the camera itself. Now i have screwed it off and it works perfectly, but it sure looks a bit stupid.
