You should contact the great, amazing Eric. He's done wonders for me, including fixing and shipping an ME Super mas rapido for a Christmas delivery on trust. So what I'm saying is he does great work and he truly cares about the work he does and the people he's doing it for.

Been there, done that. It's happened to me enough times now that I've finally stopped ebaying lenses. I had a great streak for about 15 lenses, then the last 3 all had fungus, unstated in the auctions. The sellers were all good about refunding/accepting returns, but it's still a hassle overall and a major disappointment.

I really, really like this. While I find all of the speculation and doomsaying and positivity and any other aspect of posts in the FF related threads or the future of pentax threads or any other thread entertaining, when it comes down to it, I love the gear this brand puts out. I find nothing wrong with other brands, Canon, Nikon, etc, they're clearly around for a reason. They have their positives. Pentax just happens to strike my fancy. I don't care what market share they have. I have my gear, and I just care that they continue to produce gear that my gear buying devil on my shoulder insists I must spend money I probably shouldn't spend on. I'm a software developer, not a business person. I'll leave any decisions to them and trust that people that get paid to do what they do will make the decisions best for the company.
I'm a Pentaxian, and I shoot in the rain.
-- edit --
I'm not trying to passive aggressively chastise anyone or make any statement about anyone else's opinions about FF or anything else. Strictly the only intent I have in this post is to say I don't care as long as I'm shooting with what I know to be Pentax.

I find it to be just too bulky to pocket and have with me all the time. Granted, I only have the 02 lens, so that's part of the issue. I'm also fairly certain it's in part due to the fact that I've lost my photographic drive over the last year and a half or so and just go "eh" when I do think about grabbing it. How do all you Qsers keep yours with you? Do you have a slick system that I'm missing out on, cargo pants, or are you just so passionate about photography that even though the Q is too bulky to pocket (again, my perspective) that you just do whatever it takes, since it's much smaller than your favorite K-mount?
I have this case and use this sling, but I generally leave the Q at home on the shelf next to the K200D. (I do have the manfrotto mini tripod thing that is attached on the bottom at the tripod mount, but that doesn't add anything that the case setup I use can't handle, and is wonderfully convenient...).

Quick and dirty: use it like any modern lens, just your hand is the focus motor.
being an A lens, it has auto aperture (as you know). This means it can take full advantage of all modes on your camera. The only difference between that and say the F or FA or DA 50 is that it's manual focus and they're auto focus.

Fear not when ordering Pentax on Amazon, regardless of what's listed as the seller. I spoke with a Pentax USA rep (forgive me, I'm not up on the current official branding - not being snarky, either) using the official website's chat, and they said that if it is bought from the amazon website new, it is authorized, as amazon is an authorized retailer. They do not make distinction on who/what the seller is listed as.
Agreed, great deals and great reputations in the marketplace. I purchased an 18-55 WR and DA 35 2.4 from members there at great prices, and couldn't be happier.

Encountered my just my second pentax in the wild on Saturday at an orchid gathering "Orchid Quest" here in Madison, WI. I didn't strike up any conversation with him, and I couldn't quite tell what he was shooting - I was starting to get creepy as I kept standing near him and oggling his gear... It had a more curvy "older" style like my K200D than the k7 and newer blocky style. I'm thinking it may have been a K10 or K20, but i just couldn't quite make out the labeling. Oh well...
I've also gone from knowing no other pentax shooters in real life, to having helped convince two long time friends into K-50 kits. It's looking up.

Yep, you can absolutely do this with K200D and grip, it's how I have my k200D setup. Though, I don't use the grip often because it seems to cause the batteries to read too low about 200 shots before they would in-camera... I digress. Menu -> Set-up -> Select Battery -> Grip First. This will cause it to use batteries in the grip as the first option, as long as there are batteries with enough juice in the grip.

Yes, according to the person I chatted with at pentax USA a month or so ago, if you bought it through Amazon, regardless of the actual retailer, Amazon is considered the seller and is authorized.

I haven't played around with recent P&Ss, so I couldn't tell you if it's better or by how much. I can tell you that it's, as you say, at least adequate. It's convenient sized (though with the 02 zoom on you have to reconsider the portability - small, but awkward shaped for bags). It does have far superior control over a P&S. Tv, Av, TAv (M with auto ISO enabled) exposure compensation, basically if it's in your Pentax DSLR's, it's in this little guy (some exclusions may apply - my dSLR for reference is K200D)

as you can see, I'm also in Madison. If you want to meet up somewhere and get hands on, just bring an SD card. PM me if so.

Should have tacked this onto my other post. It's pretty easy - make sure you have full battery, though.
1 - at the root level of your card, put the extracted firmware
2 - in the menu, configuration 3, Firmware Version Info
3 - You should be able to select the firmware you want to update, camera or lens (depending on which one you put onto the card) and it should do it!

I got that exact set for my new Q. They actually seem to be lasting longer than the OEM battery. The charger is nice as it's a direct plug to the outlet, rather than via cord. The wasabi's are no joke!

Alright, here are some photos from the weekend. Saturday was an event called the Paddle & Portage here in Madison, I'm intending to do this 20 consecutive years. two 1.5 mile paddles and a 1 mile portage in between. Lots of characters at these. I wasn't trying to be too skillful, just shot jpeg in auto to see how it handled there. All shots are at the party at the finish.
It's amazing how non-intimidated people are with this little thing, in fact, I'm less intimidated and have taken shots I would've probably not taken with my K200D (street style is intimidating to me...).

Ok, so, something you all already know... holy crap is this thing small, fun, and amazing!! Sooo dense for it's size, too... First thing I did after a quick play with the 3 minutes of battery life, and a full charge, was the firmware updates. What a huge difference that made in AF speed... wow... Also, the 02 is no slouch, I can't wait until I can acquire an 01.... I don't have any post-worthy shots yet, but hopefully once I do I'll not be lazy and put them up here!
Thanks all for your comments!

That was a good call. According to Randall S, regardless of the actual seller, Amazon is considered the vendor for warranty purposes and is an authorized dealer, so the only other concern is that it's purchased new and the 30 day rule.
So, yes, I'm good to go, and so is anyone else buying new on amazon. Thanks for steering me to what should have been the obvious source :)

To revive an old post... The Q that should be arriving today was an etailer fulfilled by amazon. I'm assuming then PROBABLY not an official authorized retailer. Does that make a difference as far as warranties go, both the initial 1 year and if I were to want to purchase the 2 year extended?

Compared to my old 3.2mp sony P&S that I can no longer find the charging cable for.... I'm probably going to be in bliss as far as having a small camera with me...

Thanks! Actually had the lens and camera firmware sites already bookmarked and intend to do them first thing.
Just how far off on image quality is the 02 from the 01? In the "post your q shots" thread, it looks like there is a major difference. Acquiring the 01 is going to fast be a mission, isn't it...
