Travelled there this past summer. The last 6 miles involved driving through mountains on a dirt road. The car will need a wash after that but the place was totally worth it.

So I was in Sequoia National Park. There were mountains, scattered to dense clouds to sun seeping in. The JPGs came out with either the clouds exposed right, or the mountains exposed right. I did not have a tripod so couldn't do HDR.
Here is shot I took, and for "fun" decided to save RAW data.
JPEG -
Then with CS6 and a bit of playing around with basic settings in RAW editor, got this
RAW -
I tried playing around with the JPG with HDR toning, and other settings but couldn't get anywhere close.
I wish I had shot more RAWs. Would have had a lot more better pictures. Shooting RAW for most important stuff from here on out.

Shoot RAW with clouds and play with highlights/shadows, that'll REALLY bring out the magic

For the last three months I had been contemplating whether I would need the UWA of 10-24 lens for my summer travels and whether to spend $400 or so on it. This past weekend I was at Sequoia National Park. Amazing place aside, I almost exclusively shot with the 10-24, even in the crystal cave underground. All I can say is that the UWA of this lens is perfect fit for wide landscapes of the park. I'll post pictures in another thread as soon as I get them processed.
EDIT: Forgot to mention. Camera flash won't work optimally with this lens. The lens will cast a shadow in the lower center of the picture because it is so big.

Autofocus and the importance of 'defocusing' | Technology | The Observer Quote: We take it for granted, but the human ability to focus instantly on particular objects in our field of vision, near or far, is a remarkable skill. As camera manufacturers have learned, it is not easy to replicate artificially. Even the most advanced digital cameras use autofocus mechanisms that are far from perfect. But now two US scientists have developed a simple algorithm that looks set to revolutionise the way autofocus works, allowing for greater speed and accuracy in digital photography. |

Being a new Pentax user I would like to hear from you experienced Pentaxians of what to tell a Canikon who probably hasn't done his research about cameras and just bought into the hype of name or been sold a Canikon by the salesperson. What do you tell or what would you like to tell ?
Would you tell the history of Pentax ? Would you tell the pros of Pentax over Canikon ? Something along those lines.
