I've noticed this even when I've been in the mountains on a sunny day so the shutter speed is quite fast and hand-held shouldn't be a problem. I'l check the Live View method. If it is AF fine tuning, where can I get that fixed?
Yes center point. On a sunny day in mountains, various colors of clothes. I'd say I've noticed this in high contrast situations as well. Lens was Tamron 18-50 F2.8 and DA50 1.8.

Stopping down to F9-10, the sharpness is acceptable but the shots that I really miss are of a person and trying to get a bit of blur for the background. The subject ends up turning out soft :(
What's shimming?
If I find out that live view gives me sharp focus while the viewfinder does not, where does the problem lie? Camera or the lens?

I've noticed that I need to take multiple pics of the same subject at F2.8 or less to get it in sharp focus. Even then it I'm not sure if I've gotten the subject sharp. I've tried micro adjustments without luck. Is there any service shop in the Seattle area where I can get this fixed?

I'm referring to the darker blue sky in the center. I noticed on my recent death valley trip that I couldn't get an even shade of blue for the sky. It was always blue on one end or middle when I rotated the CPL.

Anybody ever have a polarizer stuck so tight to the front of the lens that it won't rotate or come off? I have a Tamron 17-50 with the polarizer in front. What are my options in this case?

Cleaned up the OP a bit but the gist is that it seems the subject I'm trying to take a picture of comes out a bit soft. This is in daylight outside in the sun.

I have a Tamron 17-50 F2.8 lens hooked up to a Pentax K-5. I’ve noticed that it doesn’t always focus right produce a sharp picture. It seems the subject I'm trying to take a picture of comes out a bit soft. This is in daylight outside in the sun. I've tried focusing with the middle focus point and ones left/right of it. I’d like to send it in to Tamron for calibration. I’m not the original owner of the lens so I don’t believe the warranty applies to me.
1. Anybody have experience with doing this?
2. Are there any local shops around Seattle area which will do the same thing?
3, Do I send in the camera too?

Interesting comment about the grain. I added it in the picture thinking it looked good. Could you say what situations grain should be added and when not to overdo it ? What does grain represent for you?

Walked around the National Mall area in hopes of seeing the blossoms, but they hadn't bloomed yet. C&C good and bad both highly appreciated

My Tamron 17-50 does not seem to get subjects in sharp focus at F2.8.
I found out however that if I focused a little bit (about 1ft) in front of the subject standing 10 ft away from me, the subject turned out sharper in the picture than if I focussed on the subject. I don't have any samples, but would like to confirm if there is a scientific test to determine issues.

Hmm, I haven't heard that. I may just hold off on getting that one in 2013 then. Guess I'll have to take 18-135 on the wet days.

Anybody who has used these two lenses, is there a noticeable difference between the size/weight with these lenses while walking around ?
I'm thinking of selling the Tamron and getting the Pentax since I'll be moving to the wet NW soon :)

Travelled there this past summer. The last 6 miles involved driving through mountains on a dirt road. The car will need a wash after that but the place was totally worth it.

So what you are saying is for $169 I get a lot better RAW converter than Adobe ACR 7 in Photoshop CS6 ? Is it great for other lenses too (FA 50, Tamron 17-50 etc.) ?
