Just did AF Fine Adjustment - all my lenses are off?!

Just finished experimenting with the FA 31mm Limited. Tried AF Fine adjustments from 0 to +6 and saw no difference. Used several different focus distances. Focus acceptable between F5.6 and F11; any other value looks out of focus at 100%. I had a Sony Cyber Shot that images still looked reasonable at 200%.

So there are 11 focus points on this camera but I have only seen one red dot, usually in the center when I depress shutter half way. Is this normal? I'm set to Auto AF/11 points. Other cameras I have used in the past would show multiple focus points when pressing the sutter half way. Am I missing something?

On a different note, the DA 18 - 135mm shots look great at 100% and very reasonable at 200%.

Question about Digital Camera Utility 4

I have not received CS5 amd Lightroom 3 I ordered yet so I have been playing around with the Utility 4 software that came with the camera. I noticed that in the Image Data screen info on some PEF shots is shown in red font color. Usually either the date, exposure speed or aperture. Some shots show no red font for data; all values are black font. Tried to research but came up with nothing. Can someone explain what this means?

Edit: Found it in Tools - Options Never mind!

Fun Factor of the K5?

Thanks Rupert!

I have just recently developed an interest in HDR. Some think it is heresy but many like the numerous variations that tone mapping renders - from natural to surreal. I have found a market for images that represent impressionistic to surreal effects then printing on canvas then framing (Giclee printing) on an Epson Stylus Pro 10 color inkjet printer. Fun stuff for me! Even printing a more traditionaly processed HDR image and printing it on fine art paper works very well too. The quality is absolutely stunning with that printer.

LOL, I will make sure I am sitting down when viewing the results of the 31!

I got mine Thursday, replacing a Sony Cyber Shot DSC-HX100 I recentky bought and sold to get the K5. I took some identical pics with it using the 18 - 135mm lens and the quality of the K5 shots are amazing over the Sony (as they should be) and I haven't even tried the FA31 Limited yet!

I mainly got it for HDR photography as the Sony wouldn't do but -1, 0, +1 and that just wasn't enough for some of the shots. I still do enjoy single shot/general shooting a lot more too! It IS fun! Love the feel of the camera as well. I used an SLR many years ago so that helped but what a challenge learning about all this camera can do!

Exposure Bracketing

Photomatix recommends shooting a 3 bracket shot in this order: 0, -, +, which is the default setting for the K 5. The way I shoot most will be 0, -2 and +2 but I need the extra EV spread for the great dynamic range when shooting the interior of a house on the beach in the Caribbean with the windows open so the outside view can be seen as well.I find that interior shots are very difficult under those conditions unless you take themat sunrise/sunset and I am hoping that an 8 EV burst will do it justice. Theonly cameras that will capture a wider range (up to 18 EV) are out of my price range!

Exposure Bracketing

Hello, first post but long time lurker. Will receive the K 5 tomorrow so for the last week I have been studying the manual and every review as well as doing searches in this forum (great forum by the way)!

I have a question concerning exposure bracketing for HDR image processing through Photomatix Pro. Can the camera do a 5 shot burst at -4, -2, 0, +2, +4? The instruction manual is confusing about only doing only 1/3 or 1/2 EV steps, but I have read on another thread here it will at least do -2, 0 +2 on a 3 shot burst.

Thanks in advance.
