Pentax K-70 Giveaway The Modern Day Caboose

Today’s caboose with its red marker lights might be unmanned, but it is unmatched with its 4400HP of pushing power. The crew at the front is able control these engines in synergy with the two up front.

If I win I will use this camera to upgrade my son’s K100, yes a K100!

K-30 won't go into manual mode

I rotate the mode dial on top of the camera from TAv to M but the camera stays in TAv mode. If I put it in B mode and rotate back to M mode it goes to TAv even though the dial is in M.

Anybody else experience this problem?

It just started doing this. Taking out the battery or changing lenses has no effect.

Tamron 150-600mm for Pentax..Coming??

So what would be enough interest? Could we use the forum to create a post that would show committed buyers that would put an upfront deposit down on the lens? Just thinking out loud?? I would put 50% down to have one in the spring of 2015.

I want to get a lens like this but for now Sigma is the only player with a 150-500mm. Is a Pentax mount for the Tamron on the horizon or should I go for the Sigma since the Tamron ship might never come in?

I had a chance to sample the big Tammy during their Tailgate Tour this summer and it was nice. What are your thoughts??

New Tamron 150-600mm Lens ...N/A for Pentax?

Oops my mistake. I thought it was comparably priced to the Sigma.

If they are backlogged for Nikon and Canon mounts then they won't even be interested is us, though if we emailed them to let us know of our interest maybe we will get one after all the initial hoop-la dies down. One thing for sure, if we do not let them know they won't even think of tooling up for a Pentax mount, so let them know. I know I will.

OK, I understand that, however as mentioned that didn't stop them from making a Sony mount due to business interests. If we Pentax users could put together a group purchase and put 50% up front to show our commitment to Tamron, how many pre-orders do you think it would take to have Tamron make this lens for a K-mount? Do you think an $850 selling price would be acceptable? Lets generate a consumer driven groundswell of interest to make this a reality.

I am going to attend a Tamron tailgate event at the end a August in Ohio and I would like to present that idea to the folks at Tamron.

Thoughts? Ideas?? Lets here from you folks. Can the Admins post this where all forum users would notice this so it get everyone's attention?

A K30 with an old Tele-Takumar/Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR 400mm F5.6 lens. It's a beast and with a K adapter all the lens info is upside down. I wish it had a tripod collar. If you nail the focus though it does produce a nice image. Thanks for the comment!

Does anyone know if Tamron intends to make this lens in a Pentax mount? Are we Pentaxians that much of a minority that Tamron will make a Sony mount but nothing for Pentax? What would be a tipping point in volume for Tamron to make this lens in a Pentax mount? A hundred preorders???

Bummed.............

I am only aware of the fine focus adjustment feature. If you shoot in RAW it wont be a problem if you forget to compensate. You can adjust it in PP.

Steve, does HSS work on the k-30? I have a 500 DG Super that only did HSS on my old K100D. It wouldn't work on my K-x either. In other words, would you recommend this flash?

I also wonder if anyone has been using a Bolt brand flash on their K-30's

I don't believe there is a feature like that as is found on smartphones and point and shoot cameras. As you can see by the previous answers, panoramic images are created in Post Processing. Follow the previous posters advice and shoot in totally manual mode to keep all the same settings with each frame you shoot. Here is a pano of the Sault Ste. Marie Locks I took a while back

When I started out with a K100D and wanted to shoot my daughters volleyball games in a poorly lit gym, I ended up shooting Tv with the kit lens 50-200 at f4 and ISO 1600 with assistance from a Sigma DG500 Super flash w/HSS. I was able to get good results with a 1/320th shutter speed.

After upgrading to a Kx and lastly a K-30, I now use a 50mm 1.7 Pentax prime lens with no flash. One feature I use now with the K-30 is the TAv dial setting where you set the shutter speed and the aperture, usually f2, and then the camera sets the ISO which I have set the max at 3200. You might have to use the e/v compensation to tweak the exposure.

Finally, take a lot of photos. I find after downloading and viewing on a monitor, I usually end up with keeping 1/3 of the shots I took. Hope this helps......Practice, practice, practice.

A friend is letting me try out this lens since he has not used it in many years. The k-mount adapter does not lock when I mount it on the camera. The k mount he has on was for a K-1000 film camera so is there a different one I can use? When I get it mounted on the camera all the lense info text is on the bottom side of the camera. Is this because of the K- mount adapter currently installed?

Also there is no tripod mount on this lense. Can I get one or do you know of a universal one that I can use?

Thanks for the advice!!

Very nice image Jim. Has a sort of HDR processing to it. What ISO and shutter speed did you use? I don't imagine it was traveling very fast as it looks like it was approaching the Dumaine St. Station.

Reminds me of a "Streetcar Named Desire"

However if you are shooting prop planes and want the nice prop blur you see in pictures, which IMO makes the aerial shots much nicer, you don't want a shutter speed much hicher than 1/320. In other words make sure your panning skills are good or start practicing them before the next airshow.

HSS with Aftermarket Flash on K-30

I am looking at getting an aftermarket flash to use with a K-30.

What brands, Metz, Sigma, Bolt, have you used with sucess on a K-30? Which model(s) are compatible with the K-30?

The reason I ask is that when I upgraded from a K-100 to a K-x three years ago, my Sigma EF-500DG Super would not do HSS on the K-x.

Thanks for your input!

Tried out the GPS unit on my K-30. I guess the compass and destination folder options are not available on this camera. I only have the Astrotracer feature. I have firmware 1.0. Is this all a K-30 will do or is there a newer firmware available the makes those features available?

Read the review by Michael Tansley on the website. He mentioned that you can save locations in a destination folder. If you have saved a location can you use the camera to get you back to that exact location? Trying to figure out why you would want to save a destination. Thanks for your reply!

I would contact him via PM but there was no link in his review.
