Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter

There is nothing to worry about that, there is a long macro tube so that MDF is relatively small.

However, as there is no electronic, will the TC work ? I mean, will my DSLR still ask me "what focal length" am I using ?

Hello,

I was thinking about getting a Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter but I was wondering...

Is the TC worth buying ? I read the reviews on this forum and it looks quite good but... in a more practical way :

Is it worth putting it on a 500mm ? I got a 80ED telescope lens, used in a prime focus setup. It gives very good IQ, so is it better to crop or to use the TC (and crop even more?).

As a consequence, does this TC work with manual focus lens ? Because my 80ED is connected through a T2.

Thank you !

A f2.8 200mm would be so good to have and play with... but I'm really poor and I can't afford that..
I used this Tak with a converter and I must say I was quite impressed with the rendering.

Your advice is quite useful though!

Thank you for all your help, I'm waiting summer for sun/light (and heat). :)

I pushed it to 640 ISO to get decent shutter speed. I was shooting in soft (low) light condition. I shot in M-mode with green button for the stop-metering function.

Concerning the EXIF, well.. I was playing with the 200mm + X2 converter and forgot to change the the focal length when I removed the converter.

This picture is a 100% crop :)

Thank you all of you!

Actually I was in a hurry when I took the photo. These little birds move so fast.. The bird was already aware of my presence, I couldn't approach more.

The branch in the background is really annoying, I'm totally agree.

If you look closely on the higher resolution (link : http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/042/7/b/7b175fc63f3a0b800b0670880c780e4f-d4pcwn6.jpg ) we can see there is some "grain" everywhere..

I used my SMC Takumar 200mm f4. This is one shot at f4 (wide open), at 640ISO, and 1/250s shutter speed.

Is it well framed? Is it sharp enough? Does the noise annoy?

I personally think there is a lack of details... but I guess I need to upgrade to higher grade lens..

If I remember correctly, Pentax made the reference to "optics used in astronomical telescope" which can mean simple optics. However, simple optics doesn't imply low quality at all.. Some birders use the Orion/Skywatcher 80ED (which can be bought at ~320 €) which has an outstanding quality. I can provide a link to a comparison with a Canon 100/400mm IS L (don't know if I'm allowed to post link though) and the Orion is near to the Canon. In fact the Orion uses a APO doublet, FPL-53 glass I think..

Maybe Pentax has used that kind of glass and conception and added a focusing system to it..

That sunset was taken with the da35 f2.4 and Pentax k-x

I think it's maybe a bit too dark..

Thank you for watching!

Hi everybody!

First, I'd like to say I live a littly country called Belgium, near France. I've been a Pentaxian user (and a dSLR user too) for a year.

I own a K-X as well as the 18-55, 50-200 lenses from the kit. I also have a da35 2.4 and a refractor telescope used as 500mm f5 lens. I must say my favorite lens is the da35 so far.

I also find that forum really interesting, I've been reading it for months!

Finally, I'd be happy to show my photographs and to get your opinion about them to improve my skills.

Voilà :)
