How Can I tell The difference between the 67 55mm 4.0 NEWER one vs Older one

I recently bought a mint copy of the lens but found out it had a strange noise inside like there was bits of sand inside so returned it to the seller but then I found another mint looking one through a friend in Korea for $120 (newest version with hood) and that one also has a similar noise according to the seller but I bought it anyway because the price was too good to pass up and it looked like new. I also asked one of Ebay sellers who was selling one to check for such noise and he said his lens also exhibited this issue so I'm guessing it's a very common issue. I will be traveling to Korea for a few weeks so I'm going to visit a repair shop to find out what exactly is the cause of the noise and if it is something to be concerned about. I will let you guys know if I find out.

Hi guys,
I've been looking for a BB-61 split screen for my 67ii and this guy contacted me saying he has one on his 67 (not 67ii) but not sure if it was shimmed down or not. Does anyone know if it had to be physically modified to fit an 67 and will I be able to take his BB-61 and reframe it with a frame that I have?
Thanks in advance.

Anyone have a split image focusing screen for P67II?

Well I managed to find a BJ-61 (split circle with grids). This will do until I find the BB-61.

Does anyone know why the brighter 80/81 series screens like BB-81, BA-81, etc are only recommended for telephoto and slower lenses? It says it can affect exposure and I think I read that the screen may darken when certain lenses are stopped down?

Well I'm desperately looking for one and at least would love to try it out to see if I should be this desperate or not. I just missed a sale on Ebay on the BB-61 screen and I'm kicking myself for it. If anyone has one willing to part with or let me test it out or borrow for my trip next month, please contact me..
Thanks.

Installing rubber eyecup on Pentax 67II

Thanks for the response. So I just installed the eyecup and this is what I did. Unscrewed the outer ring which contains the glass, and initially I tried to install the eyecup without removing that thin rubber ring surrounding the metal piece and had difficulty trying to wrap the eyecup around. While trying to pull the eyecup off to reinstall it, the thin rubber piece came off with it.
At first I thought that thin rubber ring was originally glued on to the metal piece (because it had that gray dried glue kinda look) but looking at it closely it looks like it just fits over the metal piece just like the eyecup. After that it was so much easier to wrap the eyecup around and I put the rubber ring in a little ziploc bag for safe keeping.
I just wanna make sure that the thin rubber ring was supposed to be removed prior to installing the eyecup.

Just want to make sure before I mess it up.
So to install the eyecup I have to unscrew the outer piece which contains the glass and then do I have to take the thin rubber piece off? Is that rubber glued on to the metal? or do I install the eyecup over that rubber ring?
Thanks in advance.

Noise inside 55mm f4 67 lens

looks like it's not so uncommon because I read a few people complaining about the same issue. good thing is, it seems like it doesn't affect the optical quality.
I just wonder what it could be and if it can be fixed.
Is there any service center in the states that repair Pentax 67 lenses? Well, I'm going to Korea and Japan next month so maybe I will have better luck fixing it there.

Noise inside 55mm f4 67 lens

just bought a mint 55mm f4 SMC 67 lens (latest version) and I noticed there is a strange noise inside the lens when I rotate it. Sounds like grains of sand or ball bearings sliding inside the lens barrel.
Is this normal? the lens looks mint with no signs of damage.
Can anyone with the same lens check their lens for me?
Thanks.

Split screen or microprism?

thanks for the link. I think the microprism one should be fine for now.

Gotcha. I will get the split screen one if I can find one but for now the microprism should be fine.
I believe the eyecup screws on so no issue of it falling off.

Split screen or microprism?

I have a pentax 67ii and I was wondering which type of focusing screen will be most useful for portraits.
I have the standard microprism screen but seems like the split screen will be easier to focus with but I can't say for sure since I haven't used one before.
For those of you who have used both extensively, what's your preference for shooting portraits?
Also, are eyecups useful? Will it get caught on my clothing when carrying the camera on the shoulder?
Thanks again.

Lightweight tripod for Pentax 67II?

thanks everyone for the suggestions.
At this point I'm just thinking of getting a small tripod for the mirrorless camera as I don't think I will be using the Pentax 67ii too much, if at all, on a tripod. Maybe I can get by with the 1 series tripod that I mentioned. If not, it's all good.
I need a recommendation on a quick release plate. There is one from Acratech and also one from RRS which is also for the 645.
I do not need an L-bracket by the way.

Lightweight tripod for Pentax 67II?

Hi guys, I think this is my first post on this forum.

I just acquired a Pentax 67ii, 105mm f2.4 and 75mm f2.8AL lenses and would like some input on a travel tripod.

I will be traveling to Korea, Japan, and Vietnam in March (for wedding and honeymoon) and I plan to take the Pentax and a mirrorless digital camera, mostly likely Fuji X-T2 with me.

I'm not sure if I will be using the Pentax on a tripod that often but kinda want to take a few shots with it together with my girlfriend (most of the time it will be used for handheld portraits). I'm certainly not going to hand it over to a stranger to manually focus perfectly and take a steady shot.

I currently have a Gitzo GT2542T traveler with Markins Q3 ballhead which I found very stable when I used it with my A7RII, however, since I'm going overseas and mainly will be using the Fuji on a tripod, I think I want something even lighter.

I'm thinking of getting a Gitzo GT1545T tripod and possibly a smaller ballhead from Photo Clam (pro-30ns). With this set up I will be shedding 0.8lbs of weight.

Do you think this set up will be able to handle the weight of the Pentax 67 and the lenses that I have?

Also where can I buy a cable shutter release for it? Is it universal or is there one specifically for the Pentax?

Thanks in advance.

New to pentax forum

Hey guys~ I just joined the forum because I'm thinking about getting a K-5.
I currently have a Sony a900 and a Fuji S3pro. Previously I've owned a D700 and a D300.

I have never used a pentax camera before and I like trying out new stuff so I'm seriously considering getting a K-5 and a nice prime lens to test it out.
Let me know if there is anything that I should know about.

I've read about the staining issue? what is that all about?

Thanks guys.
