It is sharp enough wide open (see the picture with 3 pigs and their house). I don't have any Pentax primes yet but I am waiting for PENTAX SMC DA 40mm f/2.8 XS to be delivered by the end of the month.
It will be interesting comparison ($16 lens vis $225 lens).

We have the same rules but it depends on the mood of the guards, normally they don't care.
In fact they should inspire to take photos, it's good advertisement for their moll.

In fact the photos were automatically compressed while uploading. Originals are much better in detail and color.

It would be rather narrow for indoor shooting for the "one and only" but it really delivers.

I've made some first test shots with MC Zenitar K2 (1st photo @F2.0, 2nd - @F4.0, 3rd - @F5.6) and must say that handling is nice, focus ring is smooth and easy to turn by one finger but not loose. It looks like the lens is good.

Its design goes back to late 80s of last century.

I happened to buy for $16 mint MC Zenitar K2 for my Pentax K-01.
It it my first experience with Russian lenses (though I am Russian) and it is too early to share any experience and real world pictures.
But what really amused me was how naturally the lens fitted the camera. I doubt that Marc Newson even heard about the Zenitar brand
but design of both definitely has something in common even if there are 25 years between them.

Not long ago I've made a bold (foolish?) move and changed my Olympus OMD EM5 with 12-50 for Pentax K5 with 18-55WR and 55-300.
While I like how 55-300 works, there is definitely a problem with 18-55: all the pictures made at the long end and with focusing to far away objects are blurry.
I don't expect razor sharp images from this budget lens but remember when I had Pentax KR with 18-55AL I did not have this problem.
I tried to play with auto focus adjustment in menu but it seems that it does not have any significant impact.
The photos of close ups (say, up to 5 m) look just fine and I really like them.
I will appreciate any thoughts before I take the camera to repair shop as it is still under warranty.

I just received Vivitar 24/2.8 with PK-A/R mount and at first had the same problem - couldn't lock it into right position. I used some force taking a risk and it is just fine.
It appeared to be a very nice lens by the way.

I have Sigma Mini II 28/2.8 Macro and when I first time put it on I used more power than usually do and felt that it was stuck when I tried to take it off - it took some time and extra gray hair before I succeed.
But now it's OK though I did not do anything, just put it on and off several times.

What did you do with mirrors?
I will need some good magic too as I am thinking about K5 if they drop the price after new Sony A77 hits the market.

Thank you for your replies.
Yes, I switched on startup dust removal.
Now I guess the reason is that I got my KR with double kit plus while waiting for delivery I bought several cheap manual lenses
and when I got the camera I started playing with different lenses much more often than I did with my previous cameras.
I think solution is to keep my stuff in clean condition and place.
I searched this forum and understood that it is not Pentax specific problem and it can be cured using cleaning kits like I bought.

Hi,
I switched to Pentax KR from Canon a couple of months ago and in general liked it a lot.
But one thing worries me: during this time I had to clean sensor twice from dust particles.
I never faced this problem on Canon and Sony Alpha before it. Today I bought "Lenspen Sensorklean"
that appeared useful because I feel I will need it a lot (I'm getting mad when I see some spot on photo).
My question is: is Pentax less protected against dust and how often you are cleaning sensor
provided that you change the lenses quite frequently?
Your experience and advice will be appreciated.

I tried to use it outdoors without shake reduction and it produced much sharper images.

Thank you.
My point is that I shouldn't stick to focus confirm by the camera but to experiment.
Will the live view be helpful, I mean, will it be "what you see is what you get"?

If I got you right I need to experiment with focusing - I will make some shots aiming at faraway object but set focus distance at various marks before infinity.

Thank you.
I think I will sell them - I bought them very cheap so won't loose much.
Unfortunately, when you buy them from Ebay the sellers mention in detail the physical condition of the lens but don't say a word about correct focusing.
I guess even if you want to present a claim they will tell you that this problem is with this certain lens together with your certain camera.
So, it's a gamble...

I have bought a couple of K-mount manual lenses: Chinon 50/1.9 and Porst 28/2.8, both in excellent shape.
While shooting everything closer than infinity it's OK.
When I try to shoot landscapes or distant objects at infinity settings it looks like both are out of focus (not sharp).
I faced the same problem when using M42 lenses with adapter on Canon EOS but thought that it won't happen with K-mount on Pentax KR.
Am I doing something wrong?
Can anybody help?
