Hello people!
I am staying in the Cantal region of france in the last week of august (specifically the town of condat) and I am a very keen predator angler, and was wondering whether anyone had any experience of fishing in this region of france- so any tips on which lakes or rivers are the best for this type of fishing. If any particular fish I'll probably try and target Largemouth Bass and Pike (Muskies in America i think).
Any info what be greatly appreciated!

Hello all,
I Have an ME Super and carry it around a lot with me, noticing how compact the body is- and really I need to get a compact prime lens to compliment it. I mean my Helios 44m-4 is quite small but I cant really shove it and the camera in a coat pocket with comfort. So I was wondering if their were any suggestions on a small pancakey lens to go with the ME Super anywhere between the 35-60mm range (obviously with an aperture ring).
Thanks
Bertie

If you have a good amount of natural light coming in the focusing is good but in artificial light my Tamron (with my K-5) finds it quite hard to focus quickly and effectively. But saying that it can have it's moments: one time it may focus very quickly in almost no light, and other times it will just go from infinity to macro and back again without attempting to focus properly. I'm just trying to say that it is some-what unreliable in terms of AF (indoors). BUT, on the plus the manual focus ring IMO is very nice to use (and very big). It is more of a stills and portrait lens- if you need fast focusing for rapid-action wildlife i'd get the Sigma. Outside for general sports and wildlife it's quite good but not for shooting Hummingbirds in flight (especially indoors!!!!! :D)

Update: Pulp Fiction- I Love Quentin Tarantino's random yet perfectly entwining story line.
REC- Has to be one of the best "camcorder" style horror movies ever made, has you off your seat and shouting at the T.V (or running away and cowering in the corner)
The Hills Have Eyes- The fact that it "could" happen in real life and the endless "what's gonna happen next" cliche has you on your toes.

I have the Tammy and from experience I can say it produces some wonderful images. Optically it is great and the sharpness and bokeh at 2.8 are equally amazing; it's just the "things" surrounding the optics which aren't so amazing. The focusing works reasonably outdoors with bright sunlight but inside you'd be better to go manual. Also it does have quite a plasticy build but in my opinion it's a trade off for the great optics at that price. As JinDesu said it is a great bargain. I have used the newest Sigma and know hands down that the focusing is quieter, quicker and better but cannot comment on the optical quality as I only used it briefly. I haven't used the Pentax so cannot comment on it! Hope this has helped.
(N.B. the tamron also has a very useful macro setting which means you can get in surprisingly close!)

If the K mount goes.... that really does mean the END OF THE WORLD. ;) I'm pretty sure it won't though, as with most people.

Thanks for all the suggestions but I found out that my camera is covered by our household insurance, to a point. It is covered if someone steals or damages it in my presence, but not if i leave it lying around (and i definatly don't intend to). So I'll take my K5 and a lowepro exchange bag or something that i can fit the camera and a drinks bottle in. Again thanks for all the advice.

Hmm, i may have been a bit over cautious.... But as mentioned before going on a school trip with a hectic class is a bit more different than going with your family or some freinds. I have been to italy before(about five times) but in very quiet places where crime is very low compared to the big cities. Previously when i went i did not have my k-5. I'm not really worried about weight, i just want to take good pictures! ;) The reason i asked about p&s cameras is because the school only insure cameras up to a certain amount, and getting travel insurance where i live is quite expensive as there are only a couple of firms that do travel insurance. If i can get reasonably cheap insurance on the k5(which i'm in the process of talking to the firms about) then hooray! I will take my k-5! But if the insurance is too expensive i would much rather buy a point and decent point and shoot and it will be covered by the school. Either way i would be comfortable shooting.

Yeah getting insurance is a very good idea. I like the idea of the ameribag but does anyone else have any suggestions on how to be more discreet; I know insurance would cover everything but it would still be a damned nuisance if all my stuff were to be stolen on the first day.(Which I know is not a very high possibility if I'm careful with my stuff, but nevertheless it could still happen). Maybe letting my camera in a cage with an angry skunk would deter any theives? :D

Hello All,
I'm sorry if this has been asked before but in everyones opinion, what is the best travel camera in terms of image quality and amount of manual control?
The reason for this is because I'm going on a school trip to italy and want something that's quite small and discreet (I couldn't bare to take my k-5 at the risk of being stolen or damaged). So what would be a good camera to take at around 500-600 dollars or preferably less? I have researched into ILC cameras but find that the standard zoom kit lenses make them hard to fit into a coat pocket, but something that has caught my eye is the canon g12. Any experiences/advice would be most appreciated, thanks in advance. Bertie. :)

Hi James,
I imagine their would be some relation between the serial number and it's date of manufacturing. I would of thought, say for cameras, the higher the number, the newer it will be. I think they keep a data log of each model (newish ones, when computers had the ability to store data reliably!!) sold (via it's serial number) and when that particular one was made and what it is. So if you want to find out when your product was made just email or phone up Pentax-support and they may be able to help. They will probably have some code determining what was made when, unfortunately I haven't the foggiest what that code may be!! They may even have batch codes for lots of products sent out at once. Or possibly the codes may even be able to tell you who you bought it through (Amazon etc...)
Hope this helps.

I've got a pentax k5. And really my budget would be as far below £700/$1200 as possible.

Hey everyone.
I was just wondering what would be the best setup for an off camera flash.
My main usage is really experimenting with indoor photography, wedding photography and general still-life.
I would think the setup would include something like this: An AF540 or AF360 flash, A hotshoe adapter and an extension cord.
Correct me if I'm mistaken and any other advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Bertie
