would you care to elaborate on what a foam job is ? I would be pretty greatfull if this could be fixed for 50 usd :) Do you have any suggestions on how i could diagnose the issue more head on ? i have noticed that if i turn it upside down or on the side, it shoots as it should.

Johnsey, Not everything about the deal was totally perfect. He told me the lenses was in very good condition, but i can conclude that the 45mm is pretty loose and the plastic ring on the front of the ring is broken. Not that it has any effect on the glass, but saying the lenses is in very good condition was over the top.

But that's not actually the worst part. it seems he was a bit liberal about the full condition of the 645n, it has mirror stuck issues which i have read about before. Basically, when I shoot in landscape (without film but with a testing back) the mirror sticks to the sealing of the camera.

I am still pretty satisfied with my 35mm, 45-85mm FA and 135 LS lenses, so no complain, but it would be great if one of you guys knew how to deal with this? I have attached 2 youtube videoes illustrating the issue. I am using the included "testing" back, i have noted that there is a thread here on the forums that state i should never take pictures with the camera without a film in the camera. But using the testing back should negate this issue right?

So where I live there isn't very often Pentax stuff for sale online, but I just agreed to buy this bundle of a guy and he will be here in about 40 minutes or so.
I initially just wanted the 35mm and the 45-85 but hesitated a bit, and he then suggested the 816 usd for the whole package. I am planning on selling everything except the two lenses (and maybe the leaf shutter). Is this a good deal or have I managed to jump onboard without checking up on things?

Pentax 645n
Flash AF-500ftz
Flash AF-280T
SMC A 35 1:3.5.
SMC A 45mm
SMC FA 45-85mm 1:4.5
SMC LS 135mm 1:4
SMC A 150mm 1:3.5
Besides this, there are a few things, various filters, lens pouches and what looks like a 6/7 to 645 lens converter.

Lenses are in very good condition and the 645n has a bit of sluggishness but works fine.

all the best.

I am very new to the medium format system, or well. the digital system. I got a 645z a little while ago and i got the 120 af just a few weeks ago. I got it for a steal on ebay. The price of course reflects the state of the lense, but there seems to be no issues with the quality of the pictures.

I have previusly played around with macro photography but has never had such a joyfull experience as with those to parts in combination. I still consider myself a photo noob but i do get some kinda nice results once in a while. Here is a few shots i did 10 days ago.

Sorry for not putting them in with preview, but when i embedded them, they where HUGE and that seemed like a bad idea.

Regarding the last picture, when i look at it, it seems meh and unsharp, but for some reason a lot of people are liking it. And i cant exactly figure out what it is all about.

all the best.

besides the whole converter situation, does any of you guys know about the prices of these lenses and if they are worth buying (quality and so on) i have found very little data to back up the whole ordeal. the 1000mm goes for 2k+ usd on ebay, but is it actually worth that price.

So, i have always wanted to see whats going on far away.. and well this guy i am talking with has the following lenses for sale

Carl Zeiss Jena DDR Pentacon 500mm f5.6
and

Carl Zeiss Jena DDR Spiegelobjektiv 1000mm f5.6

What prices should i expect on these two lenses? the Zeiss seems to a bit of a beast in price and weight hehe.

I was planning on getting a 67 to 645 converter and mount them on my 645z, is that madness or a fine idea ?

Thank you shooter for such a nice and descriptive post, Im pretty technical and skilled in quiet a few areas, but i think i might be a to much of a fumble finger to disassemble the thing. (i can just imagen small springs shooting small parts all over the place)
I have done some lens fiddeling but its daunting with this beast.

I was actually thinking about this yesterday and managed to google pictures of the lens to see if i can spot how high its suppose to go.
The 45 2.8 fa seems to clear the top of the A and F in Auto Focus(the letters writte on the barrowl)
The case with this lens is that it seems to not clear the letters totally and kinda hides some of the top. This could indicate that the two small gears are not joining correctly.

It looks like a mechanical thing, when on manual it runs and just keeps on running, when i put it to AF, it runs for a little while and then becomes so tight i dont want to push it.

would it be completly insane to see if the focus screw was tight by using a piece of plastic to turn it ? I would like to see if its a mecanical issue of some sort. (to me it kinda feel like it)

So after posting the other day, i kinda couldn't hold back, attached the 200mm and went out on the balcony and took a few shots (20+-) just to get accustomed to the camera.
After getting back and playing around with the 45mm, i attached the 200mm with the x2 rear converter-A and used the manual focus for a while, then removed them and it seem to me something might have happened while i played with the rear converter or playing with manual.. The focus function in the lens has gone all topsy turvy. I have attached a video illustrating the problem, but basically, it seems to be be stuck within a very small area of the focus ring.

You Tube

I find it to be a bit upsetting, i am presuming i must have been doing something wrong and i am not blaming the equipment. There is only one single store in the whole country where they officially carry pentax(no joke) So this will be quiet a hassle to deal with unfortunately

/additional question
Is there any chance that the mechanism which "grabs" on to the focus ring or focus latch has come undone and is not latching into the mechanism correctly when i push it into the AF mode. ?

From the lens review section, i understood that that 90 is 0.5x and the 120 is 1:1 .. is this correct or have i overlooked something ?
if the 120 is better for bugs and such, where would the 90mm be doing better ?

Thanks! I will check out the link and give it some thoughts, for some reason, mf for tele still kinda scares me, im not sure its even justified, but i think its a lot harder then the whole macro deal. Of course with focus peaking and zooming in on the lcd etc, its doable.

I really like the idear of shooting bugs, but flowers should not come in the way either. The 90mm is somewhat lighter then the 120 (500gram i think) believe it or not, i actually enjoy this beast as a walk around camera. One of my biggest issues right now is finding a bag that is actually great for the size of the camera but also allows me to go a bit "off road" I like the sling bags with easy access, but they are usually very compressed in the area where the camera goes. The protruding eye piece makes it harder to fit.

I would preferer to get the autofocus, just so it could be a mid tear all around lens for walking about. The price between the manual and AF is not such a big issue, im more afraid of the lacking light on the F4 The idea of the 67 lens might be good, but for now, I would prefer to stick to 645 lenses, the conversion from different formats is already giving me a bit of a headache.

I almost had my face eaten by a rather large monkey 5 years ago(attached, because why not), I presume I wouldn't be getting into the same issues with most bugs, but i do agree with your point about working distance.
Photos will be arriving in a week or two from now, I still haven't taken it out for a spin. I am currently taking it slow and I have ordered 3 extra backup batteries, just in case. As soon as I find a bag which will take the body with a lens, and a backup lens, I will drag it out and see what happens. I have 2 trips abroad this month, not to the most existing place in the world, but it should give me some opportunity to get some contrasting shots.

So i decided to treat myself to a new camera, i had the k-7 for a bunch of years, upgraded to the fuji x-e1, lost it in airport transit, got a Fuji X100T and well.. now i upgraded to the 645Z. Its been one of my longest standing dreams to go Medium Format, and the lent itself a week ago.

So now i am sitting here with the following setup.

645Z in mint conditions (5xx exposures when i got it)
45mm 2.8 FA (not the aw)
200mm 4 FA (not the aw)
150mm 3.5 M
Original 645 Angle ViewFinder (got it for free in the deal)
Original x2 A tele extender and the original pentax A extension tubes

I mainly do portrait shots and really like to play around with marco, so the tubes and the 200mm is pretty amazing.

But i was wondering about buying a dedicated macro lens and what would be the best idea. There are currently the 90mm and the 120mm macro lenses. I wouldn't mind getting the Manual focus version but the getting a used FA lens from ebay shouldn't be to much of a expense either.
The 120 FA is f4 and i would get 1:1 as far as i understand, but i would lack the extra light i would get from the 90. With the 120, i would also get closer to the 150mm which is really nice for portraits.

So, would you rather recommend me getting the 120 or the 90, i know it ends up subjective in the end but does the last 30mm matter that much when it comes to portraits or would the 120mm work great as both portrait and macro (two in one)

Sorry for the bad composition of the question, i am not very good with written structure.

The price is nothing less then incredible actually!
He seems to have had the stuff hanging around for quite a while, he initially wants 307usd, but i should be able to bargin him down to somewhere around 258usd.
I would go and check them out in a few days.

it seems like 5 of then are bayonet and 6 are screw mount. Would there be a chance that the once that are bayonet mount, could fit the k7 ? or is there a difference between pk mounts and older bayonet mounts ( i am sorry, but i am a bit rusty on this topic)

Hello out there in pentax land. I have a question.

A few days ago i ran into a offer on some camera equipment in a shop not to far from where i live.. about 1 hours drive.
I wondered if any of you guys could take a look at the picture and explain whether or not it is worth the efford.
I am currently using a Pentax k7 and got a few lenses, i am not afraid of manual focus but i am not sure about the whole mount problem
Some of the lenses is with screw mount and others are come with bayonet mount.

Can you guys see from this picture which of the lenses is worth getting and which of them would fit my k7 with out a converter :] if there actually is any there would fit straigt away.

I have attached the picture of the bundle, i have to buy the whole thing , and it is initially a cheap package, the camera is a Spotmatic it seems.

I am moving to kathmandu on the 10th december, for a 6˝ month stay, and it would be awesome if i could upgrade a few things before i left. Currently i own a 18-55wr, 50-200wr, 50mm f1.4, 55 f2, and a few other things :)

Anyway, i hope you have some good recommendations and ideas.

I personally love photos but i find it hard playing around with pp because of the lack of knowledge of how colors are supposed to be seen etc. People tell me that i should make the pictures look amazing the way i want to look at them. But lets face it, its also just as gratifying being able to make pictures that amazes other people. :)

Okay, so here´s a question.

I have the k-7 with the 18-55 wr and the 50-200 wr... and i love it a alot.
I also have several manual lenses that i love, that when attached makes the camera promt me for focal length.
But the deal is, i have a 0.70 screw on "lens/filter", VLC-MHG07, and when i attatch it to my 18-55wr lens, i would LOVE to be able to ajust the focal length to lets say 12.. or 13 (or something around that area)

But of course when the 18-55 wr is attached the "change focal length" is greyed out in the menu. is there anyone out there in pentax-land how know of a hack or similar that would make this work for me.

Sorry if this is a bit vague, english is my second language.

Best wishes.
a pentaxian in love with his camera.
